As an era full of active thoughts, a large number of great thinkers and litterateurappeared in late Ming Dynasty; Study onChuang-tzu in late Ming Dynasty also reachedanother new peakafter the Northern Song Dynasty. There were many important research results at that time, amongwhich Jiezhuang written by Tao Wangling was an important work of Chuang-tzu but usually has been overlooked to this day.Combined with the life, thoughts and literature view of Tao Wangling as well as the characteristics of Chuang-tzu theory in Ming Dynasty, this paper conducts a comprehensive study of the book Jiezhuang. The paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly summarizes Tao Wangling's life, friends and the characteristics of Chuang-tzu theory in Ming Dynasty. In view of Tao Wangling's rich experience, a wide circle of friends and detailed historical records, and philology and history knowledge are included in writing. The next chapter discusses Jiezhuang's stylistic rules and layout along with annotation features, which chiefly concerns the problem of annotating methods, annotating language and educational philosophy in the book of Jiezhuang. The third chapter dwells on the main content of Jiezhuang.Compared with other works about Chuang-tzu theory, the comment on Jiezhuang is less but quite ingenious.In the Ming Dynasty, there were three religions into the same flow including Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism.Although Tao Wangling started with Confucianism, he integrated three religions into one in a harmonious way. Thus,when making commentary and annotation of Chuang-tzu, he not only uses Confucianism but also Buddhism and Zen ideas.Overall, Tao Wangling explains profound theories in simple language and has extensive knowledge and profound scholarship.The final chapter mainly explores the effect of Chuang-tzu theory on Tao Wangling combined with Tao's outlook on life, philosophy, literature theory and creation practice to overall grasp the book of Jiezhuang written by Tao Wangling.
