| This report was rooted in the author’s translating practice of Fates and Furies,a novel by Lauren Groff.It tells a story of an obviously successful marriage from two different perspectives,one is the husband’s,the other is the wife’s,which explores the fierce inconsistency of the two protagonists.The author of the report translated Chapter One and Chapter Two of the first part Fates,as well as Chapter One to Chapter Four of the second part Furies,which is a test for my learning during the years of my study on MTI.After the translation,the author gave her justification.This report summarizes its writing style and how to solve the problem during the translation.There are totally four parts in this report.The first part is a brief introduction of the translation task.In this part,the introduction of the author,Lauren Groff,the novel and her writing style is included.The second part is a description of the whole translation process,which includes the preparation section,translating section and proofreading section.The third part analyses some examples of Fates and Furies both from lexical level and syntactic level.In the last part,the author shows the summary of the final findings and understandings through the translation process.The report aims at making the translation and original novel equivalent at both lexical level and syntactic level,which not only refers to the equivalence of the translation unit,but also the semantic and literary performance.In the case study at lexical level,there are some synonyms,conversion of word class and idioms that can show the unique literature effects.Besides,at syntactic level,the case study includes the short sentences,which represents the tone,sentiment and ambience of the original novel.What’s more,there are also some complex sentences.These sentences describe the characters and settings so vividly that the readers can feel like being in the scene that the author created.To achieve the goal,proper translation methods and strategies are used during the translation process,which is of great significance in guiding the English-Chinese translationprocess.Besides,in order to present a perfect translation,a translator is supposed to make continuous efforts to learn and practice constantly. |
