The Research On Zaju In The Yuan Dynasty And Confucianism's Transmission

Confucianism is the basic theoretical support of the national spirt of China,it was began with the teaching of Confucius,went through the abundant and creative ideological connotation of Confucian masters,including the guiding principles for interpersonal,relationship between human and society,the correlation between people and environment,moreover,it make an effect on various fields of politics,economy,culture and social life.Zaju in the Yuan dynasty as the mature symbol of Chinese classical opera,which could undoubtedly showed the influence from Confucianism.The form of Zaju in the Yuan dynasty is “telling a story via dancing”,thus show the live situation and pursuit of scholars in the Yuan dynasty through performing in a specific event or character image,it is positioned as the “living fossil” of the culture at the occasion.To sum up,the Confucianism has significantly made an effect on Zaju in the Yuan dynasty,in turn the opera has promoted to spread the Confucianism.In this assignment,to explain the effectiveness of the Confucianism to the promotion of Zaju in the Yuan dynasty,it will be argued in 5sections:The first section is “the history between Zaju in the Yuan dynasty and the Confucianism”,which will analyse the relationship and difference between two objects.There are differences in content,performing form and social function of these two,however,they were the spirt base on the economic level at that period.The creation of Zaju in the Yuan dynasty had a particular historical background,Confucian scholars were in a lower social class,they could only express literacy talent or political ideals through opera creation.The Confucianism as a world view affected the creation of Zaju in the Yuan dynasty,the opera has rapidly spread the Confucianism simultaneously.The second section is “the transmission of Confucianism in the Yuan dynasty”,there was an intercultural communication and conflicts among various culture in the Yuan dynasty,Zhao Fu has been a representative individual of the Confucianism growth in the Yuan dynasty,followed with famous scholars,for instance Xu heng,Wu cheng,Ye lv.These scholars has significantly contribute to the promotion of the Confucianism and creation of Zaju in the Yuan dynasty.The third section is “the possibility of the spread of the Confucianism in Zaju in the Yuan dynasty”,which will include three sections,from the outer cultural environment,both of the opening environment for opera creation and deep-rooted classical philosophy has provided the basis for the artistical style for Zaju in the Yuan dynasty.Although there is limited source about those scholars who deeply influenced by the Confucianism,their thoughts could be found from artistic work.The expectation fromaudiences has been the internal motivation for the combination of the Confucianism and Zaju in the Yuan dynasty.This opera has been regarded as “the opera could be showed on stage”,it combined with the scale that audiences like or dislike during the creation process,thus a work that suit both refined and popular tastes could be created.The source of Zaju in the Yuan dynasty were collected from audiences and reflected their life.The fourth section is “the expression of the Confucianism on Zaju in the Yuan dynasty”,this part will be mainly discussed from four aspects: firstly analyzing from the viewpoint of opera presentation,the well-known sayings showed in the opera will be analysed,those directly cited from the Confucianism works will be found the reference sources;those transference from sayings in the Confucianism works will be analysed with combining the opera story;in order to achieve the aims of publicity and education,those directly cited from the Confucianism and explained will be analysed with the specific situation in the opera.Besides,analysis the characters of the Confucianism sayings used in the Zaju in the Yuan dynasty.The opera has majorly cited from the analects of Confucius,Menci,which related with the increasing popularity of the Confucianism in Yuan and Song dynasty,at the same time,the book of changes which is about divination has been regarded as the revolt in the opera.Secondly,the characteristics and reasons for representative individuals of the Confucianism who showed in the Zaju in the Yuan dynasty will be analysed,these individuals refer to who had an important contribution for the growth of the Confucianism and showed in the opera,for instance Zhou,FanZhongyan,Wang Anshi,Su shi.Thirdly,the proposal of the Confucianism in the opera will be analysed,via analyzing some features,for example loyalism,filial piety,politeness and integrity.Fourthly,reunion and the golden mean showed in the opera will be analysed.The fifth section is “Rethinking about Zaju in the Yuan dynasty and Confucianism's relationship”.The opera inherits Confucianism's characters and absorb completely.The right of speech changed to common people helped Zaju in the Yuan dynasty had opening environment than before.No matter the outside performance but the implication mainly reflects the character of Confucianism.
