Teacher's burnout is a hot topic in the educational and the psychological world.Many studies have showed that college teachers are one of the high-risk groups to have job burnout.College-English teachers occupy a huge group among college teachers.Although we have get some achievements in college English teaching reform,the distress on the college-English teachers and thus resulting in the job burnout is being valued highly by the scholars.Job burnout not only influences teachers' physical and psychological health and hinders their professional developments,but also has a bad effect on the reform of the higher education and students' growth.By adopting the C hinese version of MBI-ES,this research investigates 123 college-English teachers in Fujian province and makes a statistical analysis of the results by SPSS 19.0,which mainly focuses on the overall situation of job burnout among college-English teachers and the relationship between demographic variables and the teachers' burnout according to the theories of teacher job burnout and teacher professional development.Interviews with 4 teachers are carried as a supplement.The following questions are discussed:First,what's the overall situation of job burnout among college-English teachers in Fujian universities? Second,are there any different degrees of job burnout among college-English teachers with different sex,age,marriage status,years of teaching,academic titles and workload? Third,what are the causes of the college-English teachers' job burnout? Finally,what are possible countermeasures?The results are as follows:There exists the job burnout among Fujian college-English teachers,but it is not very serious.About 57% college-English teachers experience the Emotional Exhaustion,however Depersonalization and Reduced Personal Accomplishment are not found much.The college-English teachers with different sex,age,marriage status,years of teaching,academic titles and workload have different degrees of job burnout,mainly existing in the Emotional Exhaustion.Based on the investigation result,the author explores the causes of the college-English teachers' job burnout from the following aspects: the contradiction between social expectation and reality,the contradiction between academy and policy,the contradiction between work and family,the contradiction between pay and reward,the contradiction between teaching and researching,the contradiction between teacher-centered and student-centered classroom.Based on the results,this research gives some countermeasures including getting the support of society,college family and students and attaching much importance to professional development.
