| Teacher talk has been a crucial element in the classroom context.In terms of acquisition,teacher talk is so significant that it is possibly the major source of comprehensible target language input the learners likely to receive.Classroom is a significant place for both teachers and students,so it’s meaningful to analyze the interactions between them.Greetings,teacher’s questioning and teacher’s feedback are of equal vital importance in teacher talk.Speech act theory has been a central issue in both pragmatics and philosophy of language.In the previous studies,most researchers did too much researches on College English of integrated courses rather than viewing,listening,and speaking of College English classes,especially less studies on the National Quality Resource Sharing Course.This study analyzes the teacher talk of greetings,teacher’s questionings,and teacher’s feedback under the framework of speech act theory employing the method of conversation analysis and naturalistic inquiry.The research questions of this thesis are as follows: In the College English of viewing,listening and speaking chosen from the National Quality Resource Sharing Course:(1)What are the characteristics of greetings in the teacher talk?(2)What type of questions does the teacher raise?(3)What are the types and characteristics in the teacher’s feedback?The data of the study is that six authentic College English classes of viewing,listening and speaking chosen from the National Quality Resource Sharing Course,which has completely adopted the traditional practice of manual transcription in order to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the thesis.Textbooks of viewing,listening,and speaking used by these schools are not unified,because what can determine the characteristics of teacher talk is that the teacher’s pedagogic belief that plays the decisive role rather than the textbook itself.Through the observation and analysis,the conclusion can be drawn as follows,which can offer some possible enlightenments for the authentic college English of viewing,listening,and speaking teaching.(1)College English classes of viewing,listening and speaking in the National Quality Resource Sharing Course is student-centered class rather than teacher-centered class,which the teacher offer students more opportunities to express themselves.Teachers are no longer the authority on everything,and students are no longer the passive learners in the classroom.Teachers should realize the best way to learn is to teach,so it is of vital importance to pay attention to the teacher talk in the class.(2)Greetings are the bridge to establish a harmonious relationship between teachers and students in classroom interaction,which can shorten the distance between teacher and students and lay a good foundation for classroom interaction,and play a positive role in cultivating students’ politeness manners.Teacher should use different strategies in greetings,such as weather condition,current hot topic,and so on to attract student’s attention quickly in the class.(3)In the teacher’s questioning part,the study has found that in the viewing,listening and speaking classes of National Quality Resource Sharing Course,more referential questions are used than display questions.Teachers offer more opportunities and ask students more referential questions in order to cultivate their intention to express themselves.Because referential questions can stimulate students’ critical thinking,the ability of problem solving in English classes,especially when groups of students are being taught in the class.(4)For the teacher’s feedback,there are more positive feedback and discoursal feedback rather than negative feedback or evaluative feedback in the viewing,listening and speaking classes of National Quality Resource Sharing Course,in order to achieve the aim that is designed to raise students’ confidence,courage and motivation.So,teachers should use proper teacher talk,make flexible greetings,questionings and feedback in accordance with students’ responses and attitudes.Meanwhile,teachers should raise teaching standard to enhance student’s creativity,independent thinking,and critical thinking. |
