A Practice Interpretation Report On The Seventh Round China-U.S. Strategic And Economic Dialogue Opening Session

As a practice report on English to Chinese consecutive interpretation, this report describes one CI task conducted by the author for the opening ceremony of the seventh joint meeting of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue and analyzes the interpretation of the speech delivered by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, U.S.Secretary of Treasury Jack Lew and vice president Biden to discuss common difficulties of consecutive interpretation as well as possible coping strategies and solutions. The first reason that the interpreter chooses the economic and political materials as the consecutive interpretation task is that the interpreter is very interested in this kind of topics, which has been practiced many times by the interpreter. The second reason is that the consecutive interpretation to China- U.S. Political and Economic Dialog is significant to China- U.S. relationship, and the interpretation materials that the interpreter chooses are typical.There are six chapters in this practice report in general. Chapter one is an introduction of this interpretation task, including its content and meaning of the interpretations. Chapter two focuses on the interpretation preparation,which mainly describes the background of the opening ceremony, the brief introduction of speakers of the opening ceremony and their speech features, as well as other preparations. Chapter three is about interpretation theory- skopos theory, which instructs the whole interpretation. Chapter four focuses on interpretation strategies. Chapter five is about post-interpretation analysis, which describes the strength and weakness of my interpretation, and the problems and solutions. Chapter six is a conclusion. During the interpretation, the author has gained a lot and experienced a lot, and also makes a self-improvement. In Summary, emphasis is placed on the knowledge that interpreting is the most comprehensive use of knowledge and skills. Beginning interpreters will not be able to interpret faithfully, smoothly and quickly unless they persevere in practice and build up their own living experience.
