A Report On Stimulated Consecutive Interpretation Based On The Interpretative Theory

Based on the Interpretative Theory put forward by Danica Seleskovitch and Marianne Lederer,this thesis analyses the core ideas of discourse analysis,deverbalization and reformulation with the combination of President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in 2017.The purpose of this study is to summarize practical interpretation strategies by analyzing the problems in the process of simulation practice.The indirect parallel text of the 2017 Report on the Work of the Government,the practice texts of the Speech at the United Nations Office at Geneva,and the direct parallel text of the Keynote Speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in 2016 are well prepared in advance,thus for the author to gear to the formal interpretation practice.Afterwards,under the guidance of the interpretive theory,the author elaborates the mistakes valuable for reference and shining points respectively in the actual simulation interpretation process by comparing analysis of the author’s interpretation script and the official version,for the purpose of improving the author’s relevant capacities and summarizing some practical interpretation strategies and techniques.This paper is divided into four chapters,the author focuses on Chapter Three--the application of interpretation strategies and the comparative analysis of two scripts.Targeting to the main problems summarized in Chapter Two,different interpretation strategies are put forward to solve these problems.This paper brings forth new ideas in attempting to classify and integrate the interpretation strategies used in the three stages of Interpretive Theory;for example,in the first stage "discourse analysis",the strategy "reorganization of sense-groups" is mainly preferred,while the strategy "deverbalization by paraphrase" is more suitable for the second stage "deverbalization".The author intends to find out the deficiencies from the aspects of competence,ability of integrating practice into the interpretive theory,and efficiency of strategies application.Ultimately,the author tries to extract some practical interpretation strategies and experiences for vantage level interpreters.
