A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of Government Work Report Of Mianyang City (2015)

Government work report is a kind of administrative document issued by the central government of People's Republic of China(PRC). Every year, governments at all levels should deliver their GWRs to presidium, deputies and members of national committee of CPPCC present at municipal or provincial CPPCC and NPC level. A clear picture of work done in the previous year, work arrangement and improvement of governments in the coming year can be reached by reading the report. Great attention has long been paid to the report issued by the central level while little to lower governments. What's more, growing interests have been aroused in government reports among foreign friends who live in China. As a result, translation and interpretation work of the document is in an urgent situation so as to help them to get a better understanding of China.This paper is completed on the basis of a simulated consecutive interpreting of Government Work Report of Mianyang City(2015). It aims to analyze some common problems in interpreting like number interpreting, long-sentence interpreting as well as discuss influence of background information and psychological state of interpreters on interpreting. In addition, such translation strategies and skills as literal translation, free translation, division and combination and voices changes are also applied in the translation. The paper focus on the integration of theory with practice.The significance of the report lies in that on the one hand, interpretation ability of the interpreter is improved; on the other hand, this work will attract more attention to English interpretation and translation for provincial and municipal government work reports. Last but not least, it aims to attract more translation talents to the translation and interpretation on GWRs and political texts.
