With the development of world economic globalization,the scope of the translation has been greatly expanded.The translator adopts different translation methods according to various text types.The translation of Chinese publicity materials is one of a special type of translation.Narrowly defined Chinese publicity materials' translation includes all kinds of government documents,media reports,public signs,announcements and introductions of enterprises.The source text belongs to the category of publicity material,the author holds that Newmark's semantic and communicative translation can be adopted in the translation.When translating in English,the author should adopt communicative translation and focus on the communication effect and the reader 's reception.The report concerns the analysis of the whole process of translating The Investment Guidance to Zhengzhou City,Henan Province.Focusing on the long-term economic growth,Zhengzhou sets a series of strategic measures for attracting investments,which have played an important role in promotion the development of Zhengzhou.With more than 10,000 Chinese Characters,the publicity material involves not only the current development of Zhengzhou,but also the future investment and development,specifying the industries guides,preferential policies,process management for entering the area.The author makes a full analysis of the publicity materials: first,the author introduces the source text,pre-translation and the schedule of the translation,then the author analyzes language characteristics of the source text;next,on the basis of the source text and translation process,the author analyzes challenges with case studies and explains the strategies for source text translation.The report ends with the summary.The author conducts a research according to the theory of communicative translation and semantic translation,and makes translation practice on the basis of publicity material: The Investment Guidance to Zhengzhou City,Henan Province.The author analyzes the language features of source text and how to translate the publicity materials of investment into English.Then the author has an analysis and research on the source text combining with the communicative translation,attempting to find some effective strategies to solve the difficulties in the translation,and trying to make the translation natural that conforms to the English expressing way.What's more,the target-text may help those foreigners who are interested in the participation of investment to Zhengzhou,Henan Province.
