This is a translation project report on eight articles respectively selected from websites like theguardian.com,bbc.com and theatlantic.com.These articles are translated from English to Chinese.They are about either life or culture.Their versions are intended to be published on the Chinese channel“culture and life”(“????”)and“Contents on Culture”(“??”)on chinadaily.com.cn.The selection of these articles and their version have gone through the scrutiny of the editor of Chinadaily.com.cn.It's required that there should be no existing version for the originals,that the articles should be about culture or life,and that their contents may be valuable and referential to Chinese readers.The report makes a brief introduction to the translation project and the source text, analyzes the text type of the source text, and determines that the source text is primarily informative text with the use of figure of speech, long and complicated sentences, and cultural elements. The translation is guided by Skopos Theory. In the process of the translation, the translator combines domestication and foreignization. Translation techniques like substitution, annotation, adaptation and sequence changing are used. The report summarizes the translation methods and techniques adopted as well as lessons gained and problems to be solved, so that this report can provide references for future translation of similar texts.
