| Simultaneous interpreting has long been a subject of research from various perspectives. The thesis is conducted to study simultaneous interpreting coping tactics from the perspective relevance theory. Compared to translating and consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting distinguishes itself due to its most prominent nature of simultaneousness and urgency, which has a higher demand for interpreters to seek relevance constantly from the beginning to the end of the speech, and multi-effort tasking and communicative intention. The thesis was written on the basis of various simultaneous interpreting examples. There are 26 different examples used in the thesis analyzed from the perspective of relevance theory. The examples are designated to such 3 parts as comprehension in simultaneous interpreting from the perspective of relevance theory, reproduction in simultaneous interpreting from the perspective of relevance theory and relevance-theoretic coping tactics. The major question the thesis discusses is how can optimal relevance be achieved in the context of SI from the perspective of relevance theory. In chapter 5 of the thesis, the author proposes coping tactics to corresponding simultaneous interpreting situations to the major question. In the comprehension process of SI, foregoing information, encyclopedic knowledge and real time situation coordination are the most important measures. As to the reproduction process of SI, the crucial measures of analogy, omission and free interpretation should be utilized to achieve optimal relevance. |
