This interpretation practice report is based on the author’s experience as an interpreter for a foreign teacher in the seminar commissioned by Qianyu Translation Company in August 2020.The difficulty of this interpretation lied in the diversity of professional terms involving educational psychology,live broadcasting equipment and other fields.The requirement was to sort out the contents of slides presented by the speaker in a short time and convey the key information to the foreign teacher on time.With full preparation,the author completed the interpreting task,which got praise both from the company and from the foreign teacher.This report introduced the background of the interpreting practice and the preparation before,during and after the interpretation.The guiding theory adopted in this paper is the Interpretive Theory.According to this theory,the object of translation is not linguistic symbols but "sense",so interpreters need to understand the thinking pattern of the original text before expressing it in the target language.Danica Seleskovitch,the author of the theory,summarizes the translation process into three steps,namely,the triangular model of interpretation.Guided by the triangular model,the report mainly explores how to convey communicative meaning while conforming to the syntax of the target language.Six translation strategies employed in the interpretation are summarized:semantic extension,semantic omission,semantic conversion,conversion of sentence elements,adjustment of word order and reproduction of intra-sentence logic.The author hopes that the summary and analysis of the interpretation practice in this report can provide the theoretical basis for future work and provide a reference for other translators in the same field. |
