In the course of history, ecological crisis has been one of the most serious threats to human. For instance, climate changes have resulted in evident disasters to atmosphere, ocean, soil, coral reef, etc. More and more people are concerned with the severe ecological and environmental issues. The thought of ecological socialism springs up and forms a new ideological trend and school. Among the western ecology theories, ecological socialism combines ecology with Marxism that is the theoretical guide of interpreting the current environmental crisis to explore a way out, solving the environmental issues as well as accomplishing the socialism drives. In a certain degree, translations of such works may provide excellent enlightenment and theoretical basis to the development of beautiful China and realization of sustainable development. This is a translation report on the translation of The Enemy of Nature——the end of capitalism or the end of the world? written by the American scholar Joel Kovel who is the important representative on the ecological socialism stage of ecological Marxism. The translator chooses part two The Dominance of Nature to translate, analyze and proofread. In the book, Kovel sharply puts forward the famous verdict that “capital is the enemy of nature” and “capital was the efficient cause of ecological crisis”. In the process of analysis, the translator summarizes that the language in this book is concise, sharp and objective with clear logic and theory, which is typically English for science and technology. The key to accomplishing the translation is commanding the language features of technical discourses and using the translation techniques accordingly. This report mainly focuses on the translation of nominalization structures and the respective translation techniques under the guidance of Skopos theory. What's more, the translator makes a conclusion of the whole process of translation and reviews the experience of translation, hoping that it would provide more useful information for Chinese scholars and students studying ecological socialism.
