The Status Of ICU Nurses?physical Restraints Towards Patients Among Third-grade Class-A Hospitals In The City Of Urumqi

Objective:To explore the status and factors of third-grade class-A hospitals' ICU nurses' physical restraints towards patients in the city of Urumqi by questionnaire survey and participatory observation method,so as to provide basis for nursing managementor taking further intervention.Methods :(1)Cluster sampling method was applied to investigate the ICU nurses' “ Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior” from 21 ICU departments in third-grade class-A hospitals in the city of Urumqi by applying self-designed?ICU nurses' knowledge,attitude and practice on physical restraint towards patients questionnaire?from November 1,2016 to February 30,2017.(2)Convenience sampling method was applied to observed and recorded the practice of ICU nurses' physical restraints towards patients in third-grade class-A hospitals within 8hs of daytime by applying self-designed?ICU nurses' physical restraint towards patients summary sheet?from January 31 st 2017 to March 30 th.Results:1.The average knowledge score of physical restraints towards patients in third-grade class-A hospitals was(16.67±3.80),the total awareness rate was55.56%.The average attitude score of physical restraints towards patients was(78.34±11.12)and it was tend to be at middle level.The average practice score of physical restraints practice was(114.47±27.67)and it was tend to be at middle level.2.The influence factors of“Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior” among ICU nurses of third-grade class-A hospitals in the city of Urumqi:(1)Univariate analysis: age,length of ICU service,education degree,title,ICU speciaist nurse qualification level,department type of ICU,type of hospitals,training status were factors affecting ICU nurses' knowledge level,attitude and practice on physical restraints towards patients.(2)Multiple linear regression analysis:education degree,title,ICU length of service,ICU speciaist nurse qualification level,type ofhospitals,training status.3.(1)ICU nurses' knowledge,attitude and practice of physical restraints towards patients were positively correlated(r=0.107,r=0.248,P < 0.01 for all).(2)The correlation analysis of general data and physical restraint,knowledge,attitude and practice:the age of ICU nurses was positively correlated to physical restraint,knowledge and practice(r=0.120,r=0.018,P<0.01 for all);ICU length of service was positively correlated to physical restrict attitude(r=0.137);education degree was positively correlated to physical restrict knowledge(r=0.372,r=0.15,r=0.290,P<0.01 for all);the title was positively correlated to knowledge,attitude and practice of physical restraint(r=0.110,r=0.109,r=0.266,P < 0.01 for all);the training status was positively correlated to knowledge and practice of physical restraint(r=0.236,r=0.176,P < 0.01 for all).4.The most commonly restraint appliance ICU nurses used was restraint strap(143cases),followed by the table tennis ball restraint gloves(20 cases),the quilt was used as restraint and restraint patients across shoulder were 4 cases;towels were used as restraint backing strap were 4 cases;ICU nurses were not found restraint using camisole and restraint vest.The commonly used restraint sites for ICU nurses were double upper limbs(100 patients),followed by the four limbs(20 cases).The restraint tools are not unified,and the restrained care was not in place.Conclusions:ICU nurses in the city of Urumqi in third-grade class-A hospital were generally lack of physical restraints knowledge,the physical restraints attitude was in middle level,the practice of physical restraints towards patients was terriblely bad.Therefore,it is urgent for relevant departments to give corresponding intervention measures to protect the patients' interests.
