Objective: To investigate the effect of family health education on the long-term health management and to analyze the relapse inducement of infantile atopic dermatitis, aiming to provide advices to decrease the relapse rate of this disease and to alleviate the family burdens, and to improve the quality of life for the children with the disease. Methods: A total of 76 cases of in-hospital infantile atopic dermatitis in the department of dermatology the first hospital in Wuhan from Feb.2014 to Feb.2016 were collected in this study, and were divided into the intervention group and the control group using random number table according to the randomized and double-blind principle. The health lectures were carried out to guide the child nursing during the hospital stay. The children in the intervention group were received family health education therapy after leaving hospital while the ones in the control group were received routine recovery guidance. The implementation of nursing measures was well monitored and guaranteed for the two groups by telephone follow-up,home visit and out-patient follow-up after leaving hospital with clinical improvement. In addition, the nursing effects regarding the general health condition, sleep, feeding, food supplement and eczema occurrence were also documented.Relapse rates between the two groups were compared respectively at 3 and 6 months after leaving hospital according to the SCORAD scoring system by using Student's-t and Chi-Square tests. Results: 65 out of a total of 76 cases in the present study met the diagnostic criteria of infantile atopic dermatitis.Briefly, there were 31 cases consisting of 18 male cases(58.1%)and 13 female cases(41.9%)in the intervention group.By contrast, there were 34 cases consisting of 19 male cases(55.9%)and 15 female cases(44.1%)in the control group.Chi-Square test of homogeneity showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups(?2=0.0315,P>0.05).As for age distribution,24 out of 31 cases were younger than 12 months(77.4%)and the rest 7 cases were between 12-24 months(22.6%)in the intervention group.By contrast,25 out of 34 cases were younger than 12 months(73.5%)and the rest 9 cases(26.5%)were between 12-24 months in the control group.Chi-Square test indicated that there was no significant difference between the two groups(?2=0.132,P>0.05).There was no significant difference in SCORAD scores of the cases between the two groups at 3 months after leaving hospital. However, the SCORAD scores of the cases in the intervention group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 6 months after leaving hospital(p<0.05).Furthermore,the relapse rate holds 6.5% at 3 months after leaving hospital and remained as 16.13%(5 out of 31 cases)at 6 months after leaving hospital in the intervention group.By contrast, the relapse rate was 11.76%(4 out of 34 cases)at 3 months after leaving hospital and reach 38.24%(13 out of 34 cases)at 6 months after leaving hospital.Chi-Square test indicated that there were no significant differences between the two groups respectively at 3 months(?2=0.54,P>0.05).There were significant differences between the two groups at 6 months(?2=3.95,P<0.05)after leaving hospital. Conclusion: It is significant to advocate family health education for the long-term health management and relapse control of infantile atopic dermatitis.Furthermore,it is practicable and convenient to carry out the details of family health education for infantile atopic dermatitis.
