ObjectiveTo investigate the effects on ovarian function and symptoms of peri-menopausal period in patients with benign uterine disease underwent simultaneous hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy.MethodsFrom Jan.2011 to Jan.2015,patients with benign uterine disease underwent total or subtotal hysterectomy and followed up for 48 months.Patients underwent simultaneous hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy were enrolled in the study group and patients underwent only hysterectomy were enrolled in the control group. The symptoms of peri-menopausal period and the changes of serum sexual hormone were observed.Continuous variables were compared by using t test and categorical variables were compared by using chi-squared test.Two-sides P value of <0.05 were considered as statistical significance.Statistical analysis were performed using SPSS version 16.0.Results1.The changes of serum sexual hormoneWe chose 50 patients for the study group and 50 patients for the control group. At the 6 and 12 months of follow-up,the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone for the study group were statistically significant higher than that for the control group. But this difference was not statistically significant at the 24 months of follow-up.At the 12 months of follow-up,the levels of luteinizing hormone for the study group was statistically significant higher compared with the control group. But this difference was not statistically significant at the 6 and 24 months of follow-up.At the 6,12 and 24 months of follow-up,the levels of estradiol was statistically significant lower than that for the control group. There was no statistical difference between the study group and the control group on the serum levels of anti-Mullerian hormone at the 6,12 and 24 months of follow-up.2.The occurrence of symptoms of peri-menopausal periodAfter 24 months follow-up,a total of 266 patients completed the modified Kupperman index questionnaire,of which 102 patients were enrolled into the study group and 164 patients were into the control group. The Kupperman index at 24 months of follow-up were significant higher than that before hysterectomy in both groups(P<0.05).At the 24 months of follow-up,the Kupperman index for the study group was comparable with that for the control group(P>0.05).ConclusionSimultaneous hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy have similar effects on the peri-menopausal symptoms and ovarian function, compared with only hysterectomy in patients with benign uterine diseases.
