Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Cuscuta chinensis on spermatogenesis and testosterone secretion in mice.Methods Forty-two male ICR mice were selected and randomly assigned to normal group,estradiol group,high concentration of Cuscuta,median concentration of Cuscuta and low concentration of Cuscuta.There were 12 mice in the normal group and estradiol group,There were 6 mice in dodder group.Except the normal group,In order to establish the mouse model of cryptorchidism,the other four groups of mice were injected subcutaneously with estradiol 4ug/d every day for 12 to 40 days after birth.The success rate was 100%,and all of them were bilateral cryptorchidism.45 days after birth,the dodder group mice began to drink water with dodder.The concentration of Cuscuta chinensis in the high concentration dodder group was100mg/ml,the concentration of Cuscuta chinensis in the medium concentration dodder group was 50mg/ml,and the concentration of Cuscuta chinensis in the low concentration dodder group was 20mg/ml.At the 45 day after the birth of the estrogen group and the normal group,each group was randomly selected to measure the number of sperm,sperm motility and testosterone value of the mice in each group(n = 6).The rest of the mice were measured at 60 days.Results In the high concentration group,Cuscuta chinensis decoction had a significant effect on the spermatogenesis of mice,which could improve the sperm motility and promote the secretion of testosterone.Low concentrations of Cuscuta chinensis can increase the number of mouse sperm production,promote the secretion of testosterone,but did not enhance the sperm motility of mice.The effect of low,medium and high concentrations of Cuscuta chinensis on spermatogenesis in mice showed an increasing trend.Conclusion Dodder can promote the formation of sperm in mice,enhance the vitality of sperm and promote the secretion of testosterone.
