Objective To evaluate the efficacy of kyphoplasty for the treatment of the Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures(OVF)nonunion, and summarize the clinical characteristics and image characteristics of the OVF nonunion. Methods A total of 27 patients who were diagnosed with OVF nonunion and underwent PKP from Oct.2012 to Oct.2015.We remove some case which suffered from High-energy damage, nerve or spinal cord compression.27 patients were diagnosed as OVF nonunion in the study, which contained 6 men and 21 women, and their average age was 70.7±8.7years.The effect of surgery was measured by the compression ratio of anterior vertebral body and middle vertebral height? local kyphotic angle?visual analogue scale(VAS)by before leave hospital and the last follow-up after the operation. We also collected cement volume and cement leakage. We compared these data by statistical methods. Results All patients tolerated the procedure well with immediate relief of back pain after the operated. The VAS scores of after the operated better than the before of the operated. There was 6 vertebraes with asymptomatic cement leakage by the key procedure in PKP.The anterior vertebral height, middle vertebral height, kyphotic angle,VAS from 13.25±3.82(mm)? 11.42±4.33(mm)? 23.00±8.38 ? 8.38±0.73 before the operation to 18.69±4.95(mm)?20.05±4.29(mm)?14.69±6.28?1.85±0.81 after operation respectively(P<0.05).Conclusion PKP is a minimally invasive and effective procedure for treating OVF nonunion. It can relief the back pain by the OVF nonunion, and restoration the vertebral height, and increase the quality of life.
