Objection:Estradiol and testosterone are steroid hormones produced and secreted by the gonads, which play a very important role in the human body.It is closely related to some sex tendency diseases. Therefore, this study was to explore the value of sex hormone metabolism in the etiology of idiopathic macular hole(IMH)by detecting the serum estradiol and testosterone in patients with IMH and comparing with cataract patients.Method:A total of 40 cases IMH patients aged 40 years or older who were admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from October 2016 to October 2017 were included in the test group, including 19 males and 21 females. At the same time,40 cases of simple senile cataract aged 40 years or older were included in the control group, including 26 males and 14 females. All patients were reviewed for related history and specialist examinations including vision, intraocular pressure, slit lamp microscope, indirect ophthalmoscopy, optical coherence tomography(OCT),and ultrasonography, and were diagnosed by the same chief physician. All patients had no history of sex hormones and medications affecting sex hormone levels, and excluded diseases related to primary heart, liver, kidney disease, and gonadal dysfunction.Plasma E2and T levels were measured in patients who met the inclusion criteria:venous blood was collected in the fasting state in the early morning and serum E2 and T levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Result:Age:There was no significant difference in the ages of male patients between the two groups(P>0.05).There was no significant difference in the ages of female patients between the two groups(P>0.05).Serum estradiol:The level of E2 in the male test group was higher than that in the male control group, and the difference was statistically significant(18.85±5.27pg/m L vs 12.74±2.69pg/ml,P<0.01).The level of E2 in the female test group was higher than that in the female control group, and the difference was statistically significant(18.09±5.30pg/ml vs 12.56±2.50pg/ml,P<0.01).When the E2 level was higher than 18.00 pg/ml,the incidence of IMH was significantly higher(?~2=16.05,OR=11.159,P<0.001).Serum testosterone:In male patients, the level of T in the test group was higher than that in the control group(2.26±0.99ng/ml vs 1.99±1.34ng/ml,P>0.05),and the difference was not statistically significant. The T level of female patients in the test group was lower than that in the female control group(0.33±0.13ng/ml vs0.34±0.18ng/ml,P>0.05),and the difference was not statistically significant.Correlation between E2 level and age:There was no significant correlation between E2 levels and age in both groups in men(test group:r=0.214,P>0.05,control group:r=-0.021,P>0.05);There was no significant correlation between E2level and age in the two groups of women(test group:r=-0.126,P>0.05,control group:R=0.037,P>0.05).Correlation between T-level and age:There was no significant correlation between T-level and age in both groups in male patients(test group:r=0.059,P>0.05control group:r=0.003,P>0.05).There was no significant correlation between T levels and age in the female patients in the two groups(test group:r=0.031,P>0.05control group;r=0.093,P>0.05).Conclusion:The level of serum E2 in patients with IMH is relatively higher. When the level of E2 is higher than 18.00pg/ml,the incidence of IMH is significantly higher.
