Background In recent years, type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)-related mild cognitive impairment(MCI)has received increasing attention. There are many risk factors of MCI,which are more closely related to age.Other risk factors include lower education level, gender, vascular risk factor, vitamin D(Vit D)deficiency and so on.Vit D as steroid derivatives, serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels as a clinical test indicators. It has been clarified that T2 DM is an independent risk factor for MCI and it can accelerate MCI to Alzheimer's disease(AD).At the same time a large number of studies have found that Vit D deficiency is related to cognitive dysfunction. Then in the T2DM-induced MCI patients to oral a certain dose of Vit D,the MCI status will be improved or not,and the specific extent of how to improve. At present,Vit D and cognitive dysfunction research more, but whether Vit D can cure MCI which caused by T2 DM,the specific research has not been reported. But also to improve cognitive dysfunction by adding Vit D is not specific reports. This study aims to improve the MCI status by supplementing physiologically measurable Vit D to T2 DM patients with MCI and observing their safety. Objective To investigate the clinical effect and safety of vitamin D in the treatment of type 2diabetic patients with mild cognitive impairment.Sixty cases of type 2 diabetes patients with mild cognitive dysfunction were randomly divided into treatment group(n=30)with oxiracetam 800 mg tid po.and Vit D 800 u qd po;the control group(n=30)with oxiracetam 800 mg tid po only.Montreal cognitive assessment(Mo CA)score, serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 [25(OH)D3] levels and insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)were used as the effect judge standard.MethodsResults Compared with the control group, the Mo CA score was increased(P <0.05)and HOMA-IR was decreased(P <0.05)in the treatment group after 24 weeks of treatment. No obvious side effect was observed in the both two groups. Conclusion The oral vitamin D supplementation may reduce the insulin resistance and improve the cognitive function in patients with type 2 diabetes accompanied with mild cognitive impairment, and worthy of clinical study and application. The reduction of insulin resistance may plays an important role in the cognitive function improvement.
