ObjectiveInternet addiction refers to a chronic or cyclical fascination caused by repeated use of the network, and cannot resist the re-use,resulting in individual psychological and physical damage. The factors leading to Internet addiction among college students has always been the focus of researchers.Family is always important for growing children, family relationships and parental attitudes toward children have a lasting impact on individual's physical and mental development. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between parental conflict and parenting and child internet addiction, and to explain the role of child's perception of parental conflict and their own emotional management ability in internet addiction,in order to provide scientific basis for prevention of college students' internet addiction.MethodsA total of 1571 first grade college students in Guangdong Province were investigated by convenient cluster sampling. The data were collected via the questionnaire including demographic characteristics,CIAS-R,Children's perceived inter-parental conflict(CPIC),Egna Minnenav Barndoms Uppfostran(EMBU)and Emotional intelligence scale. The relationship of parental conflict and parenting with college students' emotional management and internet addiction was analyzed by descriptive analysis, univariate analysis,chi-square test,Person correlation analysis,Logistic regression analysis and structural equation modeling.Results1.In this study,a total of 1571 first grade students were surveyed,of which 207 were diagnosed to be addicted to internet, the prevalence of internet addiction was 13.2%,and the addiction prevalence of boys and girls were 5.5% and 7.7% respectively, the difference was not statistically significance(X~2=1.03,P=0.311).The prevalence of internet addiction are different in terms of schools, emotional adjustment, parental conflict perception and parental rearing(P<0.05).The prevalence of internet addition is higher in priority university students than those in non-key college students. Those who have good ability of emotional management as well as low percipience of parental conflict have a low prevalence of internet addition. The parents of internet addiction group showed more negative parenting patterns of refusal or overprotection.2.28.7% of the freshmen' were at low emotional adjustment level.Their emotional adjustment abilities didn't vary with only child, major, school level and so on,but were correlated with their percipience of parental conflict and parenting style(P<0.05).Parents' frequent as well as negative parenting style such as denying or overprotection, would cause negative impact on children's abilities of self-emotional adjustment.3.The first year of college students have a correlation with the perception of parental conflict, parental rearing style,self-emotional regulation and internet addiction(P<0.05).The impacts on internet addiction were analyzed with multivariate logistic regression analysis. The results showed that he negative feeling on the relationship between their parents such as "influent and intense conflicts(OR=1.19,95%CI:1.11~1.28),"threat percipience"(OR=1.07,95%CI:1.02~1.15)and involving in the conflicts of their parents(OR=1.11,95%CI:1.01~1.23)were the risk factors of emotional management ability. However, good emotional management ability have a positive impact on Internet addiction(OR=0.75,95%CI:0.69~0.81).That is to say better emotional management abilities would protect the students from internet addition.4.The relationship between emotional regulation, parental conflict percipience and parenting is analyzed by structural equation model. The results showed that parental conflict can play a role in the occurrence of internet addiction through the influence of child's emotional adjustment ability, and the more frequent parent conflict and the higher the awareness of the conflict, the higher the Internet addiction rate. With the comparison to fathers, the mother's rearing style have a more important impact on the child's emotional ability, the mother with negative parenting patterns of refusal or overprotection will increased their children's risk of internet addiction.Father's parenting style has a direct impact on the child's Internet addiction. The model main goodness-of fit index(GFI,NFI,CFI)values were above 0.90,RMSEA value is 0.063,demonstrated a good imitative effect of the SEM.Conclusion1.This study investigated 1571 freshmen and revealed that internet addiction prevalence was 13.2%.Compared with the total prevalence of internet addition of college students in our country was 13.0%-18.4%,the internet addiction prevalence in our study is not low.Parents, schools and relevant departments should pay more attention.to this issue.2.There is a relationship between college students' self-emotional ability and internet addiction, those students who has a lower self-emotion ability, will be more prone to internet addiction.3.Parental conflict and their poor parenting style may have a negative impact on the child's self-emotional ability, leading to college students cannot adapt to the new life in the early stages of the university, resulting in Internet addiction.
