Objective:This study was designed to(1)investigate the prevalence and related factors of nonspecific low back pain(NLBP),and its influenceon quality of life(QOL)in solders of Chinese People's Armed Police Forces;(2)provide a scientific basis for improving their duty and training conditions to prevent low back injury and to improve QOL.Methods:By random cluster sampling,1385 male soldiers in the Chinese People's Armed Police Forces of Shanxi Province were investigated during the period from September to December,2016.The low back pain questionnaire included the basic information, location, time and pain degree, duty and training,Visual analogue scale(VAS)and Oswestry disability index(ODI).Quality of life was assessed by WHO QOL-BREF.Nonconditional logistic regression and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of low back pain and quality of life, respectively. Results:We got 1327 validated from 1385 questionnaires with answering rate 95.8%.The overall prevalence rate of NLBP in the armed police force was 36.4%.For low back pain regression model, the risk factors associated with training were history of back injury(Odds Ratio,OR=4.477,95%CI: 3.081-6.505),training stress(OR=1.937,95%CI: 1.502-1.497),military service(OR=1.343,95%CI: 1.697-3.235),training satisfaction(OR=0.470,95%CI: 0.243-0.908),etc.The overall score and all domains of QOL of subjects with low back pain were significantly lower than those of non low back pain(P<0.001).Training satisfaction was positively correlated with QOL;whilelow back injury history, training stress and daily standing time were negatively correlated with QOL among the armed police soldiers. Conclusion:Nonspecific low back pain affects QOL of the Chinese People's Armed Police Forces in Shanxi province. The high risk factors leading to low back pain, such as low back injury history, training stress, training satisfaction, and long time guard directly or indirectly lead to decreased QOL in patients with low back pain. The commanders should arrange the content and intensity of duty and training to reduce the occurrence of NLBP and improve their quality of life.
