Foreign Body Induced Cervical Abscess

Objective : To study the clinical characteristics,diagnosis and treatment of cervical abscess caused by foreign bodies,to deepen the understanding of cervical abscess caused by foreign bodies,and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.Methods:A retrospective analysis of 3 cases of cervical abscess caused by foreign body in our hospital from 2012 to 2015 and all similar reports in both English and Chinese medical record,a total of 49 cases.Results : The medical history of 49 cases between 1 day ~6months.Choosing the CT in 41 cases,X-ray in 5 cases,ultrasonography in 2 cases.48(98%)patients with surgical treatment,and select neck incision in 31 cases.Find and remove foreign bodies of 46 cases(93.9%)in the operation.Conservative treatment in 1 case(2%),tracheotomy in 3 cases(6.1%)only.Complications occurred in 17 cases(34.7%),including 8 cases of respiratory cardiac arrest,which 7 cases due to anesthesia pus overflow abscess rupture during intubation,are infant and children.1 case because of huge pressure caused by airway abscess.3 cases of septic shock,3 cases of mediastinal abscess,2 cases of vocal cord paralysis,carotid artery rupture in 1 case.All reported cases were cured out of the hospital.Conclusion:Cervical abscess caused by foreign bodies in a critical condition,high morbidity rate than normal cervical abscess.Combining with the history and imaging studies,finding and removing foreign bodies,draining the neck abscess is the key to treatment as soon as possible.
