Objective This study is to investigate the clinical characteristics, pathological features, treatment and recurrent influence factors of ovarian borderline tumors(BOTs).Methods A retrospective survey was conducted in 131 patients who underwent surgery and were diagnosed BOTs in Affiliatd Hospital of Qingdao University from January 2000 to July 2016.This process included analyzing the medical records, using telephone to follow-up their postoperative review and treatment after recurrence. All data was analyzed by SPSS21.0.Results1?The 131 BOTs patients age from 13 to 81 years, with the mean age 41.5±18.4 years. There were 69 cases whose age was less than 40 years old(52.69%).There were 59 cases(58.8%)found by health examination,21 cases(16.0%)by abdominal pain,13 cases(13.9%)by abdominal distention, and 13 cases(13.9%)by abdominal mass.2?As to histological types, there were 90 cases(68.7%)for serous(S-BOTs),35 cases(26.7%)mucinous(M-BOTs),4 cases(3.1%)endometrioid(E-BOTs)and 2 cases(1.5%)mixed.As to clinical stages, there were 5 cases(3.8%)in Stage III,5 cases(3.8%)in Stage II and 121 cases(92.4%)in Stage I,including 81 cases(68.1%)of Stage IA,1(0.8%)Stage IB and 39(29.8%)Stage IC.3?There were 124 cases who had underwent CA125 measurement before surgery, and the positive rate was 55.65%.The positive rate of CA125 was 51.75% in the patients of FIGO I,100% in FIGO II-III.4?Under the ultrasound examination, the tumor's diameter was 9.08±6.09 cm in S-BOTs,comparing 17.28±9.90 cm in M-BOTs(P<0.05).There were 15 cases(16.7%)involving bilateral ovary in S-BOTs,comparing 0 cases(0.00%)in M-BOTs(P<0.05).5?All of those patients were treated by surgical operation. The patients treated by laparoscopy were 64(48.9%),the same as laparotomy. There were 21 cases(32.81%)including rupture of tumors during laparoscopy, while 20 cases(30.15 %)during laparotomy(P>0.05).6?Of all the 131 patients,we observed the recurrence in 10 patients(7.63%).The time from the first surgery to the recurrence was 3.5-47 months. There was 1 cases(1.96%)experienced relapse in 51 patients underwent radical surgery, and 9 cases(12.9%)in 70 patients received fertility-sparing surgery(P<0.05).90%(9/10)of pathology postoperative recurrence was still BOTs,and only 10% transformed into malignant tumors. All of them underwent the second operation.Conclusion1.The age of the patients who have borderline ovarian tumors is young and most of them are found by health examination.2.The rate of accurate diagnosis before surgery is low.Serum tumor markers and ultrasonic examination can contribute to early diagnosis.3.Borderline ovarian tumors are diagnosed at earlier stage, and they are mainly consist of S-BOTs and M-BOTs which have different Clinical symptoms.4.BOTs has the risk of recurrence after surgery.Surgical procedure is the main factor related to recurrence.Usualy, the pathology of postoperative recurrence is still borderline ovarian tumors which can be treated surgically, and rare of them can convert to malignant tumor. It is necessary to keep the long-term follow-up visit?...
