Objective: To investigate the prevalence of osteoporosis and the risks of adults in Gansu province. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved adults aged 18 to 79 years who were randomly selected from 7 areas in Gansu province.A questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics and lifestyle habits.Areal BMD(g/cm2)was measured at the distal 1/3 radius of the forearm using DXA(Osteometer MediTech,American).Factors related to osteoporosis were analyzed. Results: There were 13015 participants enrolled in the survey, only 5809 men and 6276 women were complete the survey.1.The prevalence of osteoporosis in adults in Gansu was 5.28%,4.07% for men and 6.41% for women.2.The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of OP was much higher in the women whose duration of menopause over 10 years than that less than 10 years(OR = 2.14,95% CI 1.16-3.95,p = 0.015).In men and women, the prevalence of OP in uneducated group is significantly higher than the college group(women:OR=7.38,95%CI 3.67,109.21,p<0.001;men: OR=1.83,95%CI 1.24,2.69,p<0.001);the risk of OP was significantly higher in patients with BMI <18.5 kg / m2 compared with those with BMI?30 kg / m2(women: OR = 21.01,95% CI 3.67,109.21,p = 0.001;men: OR = 16.01,95% CI 5.31,48.24,p = 0.031);drinking increased the risk of OP in all participants(women: OR=1.71,95%CI 1.08-2.68,p=0.022;men: OR=2.081,95%CI 1.43-3.02,p<0.001);frequently smoking was the risk factor for OP in men(OR = 2.79,95% CI 1.43,3.02,p <0.001)The risk of OP was significantly higher in the participants with fracture history than that without previous fractures(women: OR=2.228,95%CI 1.35-3.67,p=0.002;men: OR=1.04,95%CI 1.32,3.42,p=0.001).Supplementation of calcium reduced the risk of OP in women and men(women:OR=0.55,95%CI 0.42,0.72,p<0.001;men: OR=0.37,95%CI 0.21,0.60,p=0.001).The risk of OP was reduced in women with regular exercise(women: OR=0.61,95%CI 0.43,0.86,p=0.005;men:OR=0.57,95%CI 0.41,0.78,p<0.001).3.The analysis of the indicators of bone metabolism in different age groups shows that age had effect on the level of bone metabolism.4.The partial correlation analysis after control age and menopause years showed that in both male and female OC(men: r=-0.102,p=0.001;women: r=-0.183,p<0.001)and ?-CTX(men: r=-0.102,p=0.003;women: r=-0.197,p<0.001)were negatively correlated with BMD.Serum Ca(r=0.185,p<0.001)and P(r=0.261,p<0.001)was positively correlated with BMD in men only. Conclusion: The osteoporosis prevalence of adults in Gansu province presented.Exercise habits, receiving sunshine, supplementation of calcium, large BMI and higher education level were protective factor of osteoporosis;smoking, drinking, history of fracture were risks of osteoporosis.Age is related to bone metabolism.OC,?-CTX were negatively correlated with BMD.Serum Ca and P were significance positively correlated with BMD in men only.
