Sudden deafness is a common otological emergency,it can lead to permanent hearing loss and adding great misery to patients without timely and effective treatment. As the etiology and pathogenesis of sudden deafness remain to be established, the prognostic factors for sudden deafness have long been a research focus. With the accelerating pace of people's life in recent years, the morbidity of sudden deafness has been rising on a yearly basis, and tends to affect people of younger ages.Sudden deafness has diverse clinical manifestations,is associated with various prognostic factors, and would generally resolve spontaneously. There have been extensive studies confirming the close association of the factors such as age, disease duration, severity of hearing loss, and type of audiometric curve with the prognosis of sudden deafness. The current therapeutic approach emphasizes timing of treatment,i.e.,earlier treatment is expected to produce better therapeutic effect.Sudden deafness can affect people in differrent age groups, and age may play an important role in the prognosis of sudden deafness,as different age groups may have varying responses to treatment. Both in and out of China,it has been assumed that different types of sudden deafness,as classified by the type of audiometric curve, may have different pathogenesis and significant variability in prognosis. As patients with sudden deafness typically suffer from varying extends and types of psychological problems, unhealthy emotions and reactions to psychological stress have direct impact on the prognosis. It is therefore of important clinical and social significance to investigate the prognostic factors for sudden deafness. In this paper,a summary of all kinds of influence factors was made.
