Objective To investigate the abnormalities of serum calcium levels in 86 patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma(MM)and the correlation between serum calcium and clinical features. Methods Retrospective analysis 86 cases of newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients with clinical data in our hospital from 2009 to 2016.Clinical data on sex, age, hemoglobin, albumin, globulin, creatinine, uric acid, serum phosphorus,?2-microglobulin,immunophenotyping and disease staging were collected. The serum calcium was corrected and grouped: hypocalcemia(<2.20mmol/L),normal serum calcium(2.20~2.60 mmol/L)and hypercalcemia(>2.60mmol/ L).To analyze the correlation between the clinical characteristics and the serum calcium level, compare the positive rate of the low calcium group and non-low calcium group. Results The serum levels of calcium in patients with multiple myeloma were corrected for 34 cases(39.5%)in hypocalcemia group,36 cases(41.9%)in normal calcium group and 16cases(18.6%)in hypercalcemia group. The age, globulin, creatinine, uric acid and serum phosphorus were positively correlated with serum calcium levels in patients with multiple myeloma, while gender, hemoglobin, albumin and ?2-microglobulin were independent of them. There was significant difference in the age, globulin, creatinine and serum phosphorus between low calcium group and non-low calcium group(P <0.05).There was no significant difference in sex, hemoglobin, albumin, uric acid,?2-microglobulin,immunophenotyping and clinical stage in the statistical comparison(P> 0.05).Conclusion 1.Multiple myeloma patients are also with hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia, and the incidence of hypocalcemia is higher.2.The levels of serum calcium in patients with multiple myeloma were associated with age, globulin, creatinine, uric acid, and serum phosphorus.3.The specific mechanism of serum calcium disorder in patients with multiple myeloma remains to be further studied.
