Lavenders are a diverse group of plants in the Lamiaceae(mint)family.Apart from ornamental,it's essential oil can be used for insect repellent,antioxidant,antibacterial,sedative and hypnotic et al..Now,it is widely used in medicine,health care,beauty and other fields.Lavenders are of varieties as well as their essential oil of complex chemical compositions.With the differences between the main chemical compositions of different varieties,which determines its' efficacy and price.At the practical application of lavender,the concept and classification are confusion as well as chaotic.Based on those factors,the essential oils of Lavenders,were analyzed by GC-MS and GC,and GC and GC fingerprints were used to authentication of different essential oils of Lavenders.In this paper,the chemical composition of essential oil extracted from Lavandula angustifolia,Lavandula latifolia and Lavandin were analyzed by GC-MS.The GC fingerprints were used to authentication of different gens of lavender essential oils.The GC analysis method was explored to solve the problem of adulteration of essential oils in the essential field.On the other hand,the pharmacological activities of lavender essential oils were studied,then spectrum-effect relationship of lavender was established.This work can be concluded as follows:1.The chemical constituents of essential oils extracted from Lavenders were analyzed by GC-MS.The components and mass fraction of oils were determined.Subsequently,the results showed that the contents of Linalool and Linalyl acetate in Lavandula angustifolia were higher than those of the other two Lavender gens.The results of principal component analysis(PCA)and Hierarchical cluster analysis(HCA)showed that the difference among three lavenders could be well distinguished.2.Three GC fingerprints of Lavender essential oils from 13,11,11 samples,were acquired respectively,to value the similarity between the reference fingerprint.The results indicated that the samples could be divided into different clusters according to similarity values and sample exhibiting greater similarity with reference fingerprint.The same species of lavender essential oil is highly similar with the similarity above 0.9.The fingerprints of 32 samples were compared and evaluated,and the similarities between the cultivars were relatively concentrated.Lavandula angustifolia essential oils are of the similarities at 0.902~0.947.And the similarities of Lavandula latifolia and Lavandin essential oils are at 0.625~0.835,0.964~0.995 respectively.The results showed that the difference among three lavenders could be well distinguished,so did with the same as PCA and Hierarchi HCA.3.The addition of synthetic compound and non-volatile ingredient in lavender essential oils were analyzed by GC in intuitive way.The results show that the added compound of synthetic linalool and linalyl acetate can be quickly and intuitively identified by GC via intuitive comparison model,so it does with added olive oil,grape seed oil,colorless jojoba oil,wheat germ oil,coconut oil,evening primrose oil and peanut oil,et al..4.The results showed that three kinds of lavender essential oils are of some inhibitory activities against Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria.Relatively,antibacterial effect,best for Staphylococcus epidermidis,MIC was 1.56?L/mL-6.25?L/mL.Lavender essential oils were effective against Escherichia coli.However,it is not so ideal to against Pseudomonas aeruginosa,with the MIC 25?L/mL-50?L/mL.It is effectively against Trichophyton Mentagrophytes and Trichophyton Rubrum,MIC 0.39-1.56?L / mL,MFC 1.56-6.25?L/ mL.It is of the MIC(0.78-3.125?L/mL)and MFC(3.125-6.25?lL/mL)for Canine Microsporum.The results showed that the inhibitory effects of the Lavandin essential oils for the bacteria and fungi are better than those Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifoliathe essential oils.Therefore,Lavandin essential oils are the best choice agasnst bacteria and fungi among the three lavender essential oils.5.The purpose of this study was to examine the sedative effects of inhaled lavender essential oils in mice.The Lavandula angustifolia decreased(p<0.05)locomotion.Motor coordination was affected.While Lavandula latifolia and Lavandin inhaled for 45 min seems to induce sedation without significant effect in motor abilities.When inhaled for 45 min lavender essential oils,it is not significantly reduced the acetic acid-writhing response.In the hot plate test,analgesic activity observed after lavender essential oils inhalation suggesting that it did not produce significant analgesic response.6.The differences,which mainly existed in the area of characteristic peaks in the fingerprints and the degree of antibacterial effects,among the Lavender samples.The crucial information of "spectrum"-"effect" was gathered from the chemical fingerprints and antibacterial effect of 13 samples.The spectrum-effect relationships were established respectively with correlational analysis method and multi-element linear regression(stepwise regression method and partial least square method).Interestingly,the good consistency in predicting efficient constituents analyzed with different methods appeared.The putative efficient constituents of Lavandula angustifolia were 12 characteristic peaks.
