A Pilot Study On The Effect Of 30 Overweight And Obese Volunteers After 8-week Intermittent Fasting

Objective:To elucidate the health effects,and further explore the changes of walking steps,eating behaviors,hunger,fullness,satisfaction and the research on safty was also observed.This study was conducted among 30 overweight obese volunteers by using the intermittent fasting for 8 weeks.The aim of this study was to provide scientific basis for the IF combined with walking exercise used as a community prevention and control technology for the overweight and obesity disease.Methods:In this study,30 overweight and obese volunteers were recruited through the WeChat platform of Nanchang Center for Disease Control and Prevention(NCCDC).The subjects accepted the intermittent fasting intervention for 8 weeks.Therefore,by comparing and analysising the morphological indexes(height,weight,waist circumference,hip circumference,body fat percentage,the waist to hip ratio and body mass index),blood pressure,heart rate,blood and urine biochemical index,dietary behavior,VAS scale(hunger,fullness,satisfaction),motion steps and other indicators before and after the intervention.And thus evaluate the effect of intervention and adverse reactions.Result:(1)After 8 weeks of intervention,the body shape indexs(body weight 3.36±1.93 kg,waist circumference 5.11±4.79 cm,hip circumference 2.70±3.81 cm,waist hip ratio 0.03±0.04,body fat rate 1.71±1.63%,BMI 1.20±0.75kg/m2)of 30 volunteers were significantly decreased(P < 0.01);DBP,SBP,GLU,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C were improved.Among them,SBP and TG changes in before and after intervention were statistically significant(P < 0.05);in the liver and kidney function,ALT,AST,ALB,UREA,CRE values were decreased and there was statistical significance after the intervention of 8 weeks(P < 0.05).(2)During 8 weeks,the average daily steps was 10987 + 1998,the average steps on each feeding day was 11070 + 1975,the number of average movement steps on each fasting day was 10859 + 2210.No statistical significance(F=0.141,P=0.708)was found in the differences of steps between fasting day and feeding day.The study showed no statistical significance(P > 0.05)in the number of steps on feed days(P=0.209),the movement steps on fast days(P=0.303),the average weekly exercise steps(P=0.164),the difference values of steps between non fast days and fast days during 8 weeks(P > 0.05).(3)After 8 weeks of the intervention,the subjects showed the hunger reduced and fullness rose(P<0.05),and no statistical significance was found in satisfaction(P > 0.05).(4)Compared the CR,UE,EE scores at first week,fourth week,eighth week,the difference was statistically significant.The cognitive restraint(CR)scores increased(F=4.23,P<0.05),uncontrolled eating(UE)scores(F=11.331,P<0.05)and emotional eating(EE)scores(F=5.961,P < 0.05)both reduced.(5)Within 8 weeks,the 18 subjects had adverse reactions,12 subjects had no adverse reaction.The main adverse reactions were dizziness(n=9,30.00%)and thirsty(n=6,20.00%)and other adverse reactions such as gastric distention(n=2,6.67%),aprosexia(n=2,6.67%),hypoglycemia(n=2,6.67%),low back pain(n=2,6.67%),aversion to cold appear less(n=1,3.33%).Conclusion:8 weeks of intermittent fasting combined with a total of 10000 steps exercise can improve morphological indexes,blood biochemical indexs,blood pressure,liver and kidney function indexs on overweight and obese volunteers.The effect of losing weight is good.The number of every day steps was in the range of 7000-10000,subjects can tolerate total 10000 steps on the feeding days,and it also indicate that walking exercise is a good treatment method for intermittent fasting.IF combined with walking steps had a positive change on dietary behaviors(CR,UR,EE),and also conducive to reduce hunger and increase satiety,these changes are benefit to the stability of long-term weight loss.In short,intermittent fasting is a kind way that shows a good effect,easy to carry out,help to insist for a long time.This suggests that intermittent fasting combined with walking steps can served as a community prevention and control technology for the overweight and obesity people is feasible.
