Objective To analysis risk factors of dilated Virchow-Robin Space and discuss its relationship with cerebral small vessel disease. Methods Retrospectively collect clinical and imaging data of 307 acute ischemic stroke patients(Between January 2015 to August 2016,Hospitalized in Neurology Department,The First Affiliated hospital of Guangxi medical university).Demographic features and vascular risk factors were recorded, dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces and white matter hypertensities(WMH)on MRI images were evaluated using semi-quantitative method, number of chronic lacunar infarctions(LI)on all brain layers were also counted.Analyses were performed regarding the risk factors associated with the severity of d VRS in different regions by univariate analysis and multivariable ordinal logistic regression analysis. Results After adjustment of age,sex and vascular risk factors, binary Logistic regression analysis showed that the severity of chronic lacunar infarctions,Periventricular white Matter Hypertensities, dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces in Centrum Semiovale were independently correlated with dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces in Basal Ganglia,While only dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces in Basal Ganglia were independently correlated with dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces in Centrum Semiovale. After adjustment of sex, cardiovascular disease risk factors,Chronic Lacunar infarctions,Periventricular white Matter Hypertensities,Deep white Matter Hypertensities, binary logistic regression analysis showed that the degree of dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces in Basal Gangliaindependentlyassociated with old age, elevated uric acid and declinedestimated Glomerular Filtration rate. The degree of dilated Virchow-Robin Spaces in Centrum Semiovaleindependently associated with old age and male. Conclusion Dilated VRS in cerebral is associated with cerebral small vessel diseases.Risk factor defer in various brain regions.Impact of uric acid to cerebral vasculature should not be ignored.
