How to restore short,badly-broken crown has always been a thorny problem for dentists when the restorable room is limited. When the clinical crown height(occluso-gingival distance)is shorter than 3 mm,there is no sufficient room to obtain enough retention force for the post-core crown restoration This clinical study reported restoration of short,badly-broken posterior crown using all-ceramic onlay with auxiliary retention of fiber post and discussed its indication. The all-ceramic onlay with the auxiliary retention of fiber post might be used in the following cases:1)The short,badly-broken,posterior crown, namely, the clinical crown height is short than 3 mm.2)The posterior crown possesses thinner remaining axial walls(less than 1 mm)and big infrabulge undercut.3)The crown has more than one axial wall defect and inadequate retention form;4)The depth of pulp cavity is less than 2 mm and the pulp cavity has poor retention form 5)MRI image of head is considered for artifacts resulting from the metal-containing restorations. |
