Objective: To observe the clinical effect of the convalescent peripheral facial paralysis cured by acupuncture and Kinesio Taping, and to provide clinical evidence for developing the treatment of facial paralysis. Methods: 90 outpatients who received treatment at the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in the Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into 3 groups. The treatment group(30 cases)with the use of acupuncture combined with Kinesio Taping;the control group A(30 cases)with the use of conventional acupuncture therapy;the control group B(30 cases)with only the use of Kinesio Taping. The informed consent was signed.A course of treatment lasts for 2 weeks, with 6 days a week and 1 time a day. There were 2 days off after one course of treatment. All 3 groups of patients received 2 continual courses of treatment.House-Brackman rating scale was applied to assess the clinical effect and security condition on 3 groups of patients respectively before the treatment, after the first course of treatment and after the second course of treatment.Results:(1)After comparison of gender, age, affected sides of facial nerves and course of disease,3 groups of patients showed no statistical significance(p>0.05),and there is no significant differences in H-B rating scale before the treatment, which proved that the baseline of 3 groups was consistent and these 3 groups were well-divided and comparable;(2)Comparing with those before treatment, all 3 groups of patients showed significantly better clinical symptoms after 2 courses of treatment(P<0.01);(3)After receiving 2 courses of treatment, among 3 groups of patients, treatment group showed an obviously higher cure rate than those in control group A and control group B(P<0.05);(4)The treatment group's course of treatment of cure rate was much shorter than that of 2 control groups(P<0.05);(5)During the process of treatment, patients in these groups had no obvious adverse reactions. Conclusion: All 3therapies--acupuncture combined with Kinesio Taping, conventional acupuncture therapyand the only use of Kinesio Taping--could improve the clinical symptoms of the patients suffering from convalescent peripheral facial paralysis.Among those 3 therapies, acupuncture combined with Kinesio Taping had a more specific and better clinical effect than conventional acupuncture therapy and the only use of Kinesio Taping. The compound therapy combining acupuncture and Kinesio Taping could shorten the recovery course of treatment and prevent the occurrence of sequelae stage. Its possible working mechanism is that by combining the acupuncture and Kinesio Taping, partial circulation and the contraction of the paralyzed facial muscles could be strengthened,so that the pressure of partial nerves could be mitigated. To conclude, acupuncture combined with Kinesio Taping have a safe and reliable curative effect, making it worthy to be introduced and promoted to the clinical practices.
