ObjectiveTo make a measuring instrument suitable for evaluation of Chinese HIV/AIDS medication adherence by introducing HIV Treatment Adherence Self-Efficacy Scale(HIV-ASES)through cultural adaptedrevision and evaluation of their reliability and validity.MethodsBrislin translation model revised version was used to translate HIV-ASES and Chinese culture debugging. Finally,Chinese version of HIV-ASES and its revision were formed. The HIV/AIDS follow-up questionnaire,Community Programs for Clinical Research on AIDS Antiretroviral Medication Self-Report(CPCRA),social support rating scale(SSRS),Morisky scale,Chinese version of HIV-ASES(HIV-ASES-V1),Chinese revised version of the HIV-ASES(HIV-ASES-V2)were used to investigate HIV/AIDS patients with ART recorded in the HenanProvince Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Finally,Multistage stratified random cluster sampling was used to select participants in six cities or counties in Henan Province in the year from 2013 to 2016.In 2013 and 2014,a total of 893 participants were selected about HIV-ASES-V1,and 1215 participants were selected about HIV-ASES-V2 in 2015 and 2016 in this cross-sectional study.Cronbach alpha coefficient,test-retest reliability, spearman correlation, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used in SPSS21.0 and AMOS17.0 to evaluate the reliability and validity of HIV-ASES-V1 and HIV-ASES-V2.Results 1.A Chinese version of HIV-ASES was formed, that is HIV-ASES-V1 consisting of 12 entries.According to the HIV-ASES-V1,item 3 was deleted and a new item was added to form a revised version of the scale, namely HIV-ASES-V2.2.The evaluation results of HIV-ASES-V1The correlation coefficient value of each item score and totalscore was 0.522–0.627,all P<0.01.Two factors were emerged with eigenvalues higherthan 1.00 and the accumulated contribution rate was 58.584% in exploratory factor analysis. In confirmatory factor analysis,?2/df=3.727,CFI=0.921,GFI=0.933,AGFI=0.901,they were all above 0.9,RMSEA=0.078.The model fit well. The correlations between the dimension integration and medication adherence rate in the past three days and seven days,self-reported one-month adherencerate,SSRS,theMorisky scale and CPCRA were 0.257,0.304,0.284,0.143,0.334,0.356,respectively,all P<0.01.The correlationcoefficients of perseverance and medication adherence rate in the past three days and seven days,self-reported one-month adherence rate,SSRS,the Morisky scale and CPCRA were 0.156,0.150,0.172,0.147,0.420,0.225,respectively,all P<0.01.The overall reliability of HIV-ASES-V1 was 0.863(95%CI 0.850-0.876).The reliability of two subscales dimension oneintegration and dimension two perseverance were0.789(95%CI 0.768-0.809)and0.831(95%CI 0.812-0.849),respectively.Thereliability of self-administered and interviewed questionnaire were 0.869(95%CI 0.830-0.903)and 0.861(95%CI 0.846-0.875),respectively.The test-retest reliability of three months was 0.775(95% CI 0.762-0.787),the split-half reliability was 0.812.3.The evaluation results of HIV-ASES-V2The correlation coefficient value of each item score and totalscore was 0.648–0.758,all P<0.01.Two factors were emerged with eigenvalues higherthan 1.00 and the accumulated contribution rate was 63.642% in exploratory factor analysis. In confirmatory factor analysis,?2/df=4.731,GFI=0.944,CFI=0.966,AGFI=0.905,they were all above0.9,RMSEA=0.079.The model fit well. The correlations between the dimension integration and medication adherence rate in the past three days and seven days,self-reported one-month adherencerate,SSRS,theMorisky scale and CPCRAwere 0.212,0.249,0.296,0.143,0.395,0.385,respectively,all P<0.01.The correlationcoefficients of perseverance and medication adherence rate in the past three days and seven days,self-reported one-month adherence rate,SSRS,the Morisky scale and CPCRA were 0.158,0.187,0.318,0.147,0.425,0.408,respectively,all P<0.01.The overall reliability of HIV-ASES-V2 was 0.930(95%CI 0.925-0.936).The reliability of two subscales dimension oneintegration and dimension two perseverance were0.912(95%CI0.904-0.919)and0.867(95%CI0.856-0.879),respectively.Thereliability of self-administered and interviewed questionnaire were 0.912(95%CI0.904-0.919)and 0.867(95%CI0.856-0.879),respectively.The test-retest reliability of three months was 0.807(95%CI 0.798-0.810),the split-half reliability was 0.858.ConclusionsThe reliability of HIV-ASES-V2 is higher than HIV-ASES-V1,and the validity is equivalent to HIV-ASES-V1.HIV-ASES-V2 is more suitable for ChineseHIV/AIDS patients with ART.It can be used as a tool to evaluate the adherence of Chinesepatients with HIV/AIDS.
