Objective:The study aims to investigate the status of adaptability among military new soldiers, and to explore the relationship between social support, resilience, personality traits and adaptability. So as to provide important theoretical basis for targeted psychological health education, reasonably adjust the training plan, improve overall qualities and army troops fighting capacity.Methods:479 military new soldiers from one armed police in Jiang Su province participated in the questionnaires survey using Military New Soldier Adaptability Inventory,Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support(MSPSS),Mental Flexibility Scale and The Big Five Inventory(BFI).Results:1 Socio-demographic among military new soldier479 new soldiers were participated in this study, they were all males. The average age was 18.36±1.25,ranging from 16 to 23 years;331 new soldiers had good family economic conditions, accounting for 69.1%;277 new soldiers from the countryside, accounting for 57.8%;293 new soldier are not only children, accounting for 61.2%;90 new soldier had a college degree and above of cultural level, accounting for 18.8%,311 people had a high school or technical secondary school, accounting for 64.9%,78 people had a middle school or the bellow, accounted for 16.3%.2.Status of adaptability and its differences in socio-demographic among new soldierThe average scores of adaptability was 147.59±21.81,ranging from 69 to 180;The mean scores of each item of five dimensions of adaptability were military role cognition 34.95±4.90,forces interpersonal 22.34±2.98,forces environment 36.38±7.06,the physical and mental symptoms 27.00±6.28,coping styles 26.92±3.80,respectively.T test and variance analysis:Significant differences were found between adaptability and different age stages, cultural level(P<0.001);Additionally,there were no significant difference between adaptability and economic, place of residence, whether the one-child family.3.The correlations analysis between adaptability and Social Support,Resilience,Pe rsonality TraitsCorrelation analysis results showed that:Military Adaptability and its dimensions was significantly negatively correlated with Neuroticism(r=-0.299?-0.608,P<0.001),and was significantly positively correlated with other dimensions of Personality Traits(r=0.218?0.596,P<0.001),the Social Support and its dimensions(r=0.195?0.558,P<0.001),Resilience(r=0.643,P<0.643);Resilience was significantly negatively correlated with Neuroticism(r=-0.569,P<0.001),and was significantly positively correlated with Social Support and its dimensions(r=0.256?0.461,P<0.001).4.Hierarchical Regression Analysis of Military Adaptability among new soldiersThe study selected Military Adaptability and its dimensions as the dependent variables,Social Support,Resilience,Personality Traits as independent variables, general demographic variables as first-level control variables. Results of Hierarchical Regression Analysis showed that:Neuroticism could significantly negatively predicted Military Adaptability and its dimensions(?=-0.095?-0.304,P<0.05);By contrast,Social Support,Conscientiousness,Resilience, could significantly positively predicted Military Adaptability and its dimensions(?=-0.101?-0.341,P<0.05).Social Support,Resilience,Personality Traits could predict 52.0%of the total variance in Military Adaptability,42.3%of military role cognition,42.1%of forces interpersonal,37.5%of forces environment,43.1%of physical and mental symptoms,37.1%of coping styles.5.Mediating effect of Resilience between Social Support and Military Adaptability among new soldiersAssumed that Social Support-Resilience-Military Adaptability as the first mediation model.Inspect four mediation model(Social Support and its dimensions)1,2,3,4 respectively, according to the intermediary role inspection steps,to test of the mediating role of Resilience.Control general demographic data, three regression equation were established.First, selected Social Support and its three dimensions as the independent variable(X),Military Adaptability(Y)as the dependent variables, standardized regression coefficients were:0.434,0.197,0.393,0.197(P<0.001);Second,selected Social Support and its dimensions as independent variables,Resilience(M)as the dependent variables, established the second regression equation, standardized regression coefficients were 0.416,0.254,0.375,0.452(P<0.001);Finally with the Social Support and its dimensions as independent variables,Resilience as intermediary variables,Military Adaptability as dependent variable, established the third regression equation,Founded that in model 1,3,4,Social Support, friend support, other support have a significant prediction to Military Adaptability(?=0.207??=0.181??=0.331,P<0.001),In model 2,family support could not predicted Military Adaptability significant(?=0.039,P>0.05),but Resilience have a significant prediction to Military Adaptability(?=0.544,?=0.622,?=0.564,?=0.479,P<0.001),indicated that the Resilience could mediate the relationship between Social Support, family support, friend support, other support and Military Adaptability, respectively. The bootstrapping method show that the indirect mediation effect were 0.23,0.16,0.23,0.21,respectively;relative mediation effect were 52.1%,80.2%,53.8%,39.5%,respectively.6.Mediating effect of Resilience between Personality Traits and Military Adaptabi lity among new soldierAssumed that Personality Traits-Resilience-Military Adaptability as the second mediation model.Inspect five mediation model(big five personality)5,6,7,8,9,respectively,according to the intermediary role inspection steps,to test of the mediating role of Resilience.Control general demographic data, three regression equation were established.First, selected big five personality as the independent variable(X),Military Adaptability(Y)as the dependent variables, standardized regression coefficients were:-0.608,0.470,0.273,0.469,0.584(P<0.001);Second,selected big five personality as independent variables,Resilience(M)as the dependent variables, established the second regression equation, standardized regression coefficients were:-0.559,0.496,0.406,0.448,0.568(P<0.001);Finally with the big five personality as independent variables,Resilience as intermediary variables,Military Adaptability as dependent variable, established the third regression equation,Founded that in model 5,6,7,9,Neuroti-cism,Extraversion,Agreeableness,Conscientiousness have a significant prediction to Military Adaptability(?=-0.352,?=0.209,?=0.526,?=0.330,P<0.001),In model 7,Openness could not predicted Military Adaptability significant(?=0.020,P>0.05),but Resilience have a significant prediction to Military Adaptability(?=0.436,?=526,?=0.624,?=0.526,?=0.448,P<0.001),indicating that the Resilience could mediate the relationship between Neuroti-cism,Extraversion,Openness,Agreeableness,Conscientiousness and Military Adaptability, respectively. The bootstrapping method show that the indirect mediation effect were 0.24,0.26,0.25,0.24,0.25,respectively,relative mediation effect were 40.0%,55.5%,92.8%,50.2%,43.5%,respectively.Conclusion:1.The Military new soldier have good adaptability.2.Military Adaptability was negatively correlated with neurotic personality(P<0.05),Neurotic personality can negatively predicted Military Adaptability.By contrast,Military Adaptability was positively correlated with Social Support,Resilience and other dimensions of Personality Traits(P<0.05).Social Support,Resilience and other dimensions of Personality Traits can positively predicted Military Adaptability.3.Resilience could mediate the relationship between Social Support,Personality Traits and Military Adaptability, respectively.
