Objective:Here we evaluated the efficacy and safety of dendrobium mixture,to explore effective traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)treatments and provide clinical evidence,in diabetes with cerebral infarction. Methods:In this 1-month,prospective study,80 patients diagnosed with Qi Yin deficiency with blood stasis diabetes combined with cerebral infarction were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive dendrobium mixture and conventional therapy. Before and after therapy, demographic and TCM syndrome data were recorded, and fasting venous blood samples were collected to measure levels of fasting and postprandial serum glucose, insulin sensitivity assessed by homeostasis model assessment(HOMA-IR),lipids,insulin,C-reactive protein,as well as liver and renal functions. Results:This research was included 85 patients, but only 80 patients finished the clinical observation. The expulsion rate is 5.88%.Baseline characteristics in this population were similar between groups. After 1-month treatment, significant improvements from baseline in TCM syndrome score, blood glucose, serum insulin,HOMA-IR,lipids,homocysteine,C-reactive protein, nervus dysfunctions system(NIHSS)and viability(Barthel),were observed with both groups(all P values less than 0.05).Differences in TCM syndrome changes between treatments were as follows:total effective rates of dendrobium mixture group and control group were 90%and 75%,respectively(P value less than 0.05).It shows dendrobium mixture has good effects on patients with Qi Yin deficiency with blood stasis diabetes combined with cerebral infarction.Significant improvements were also found in blood glucose, serum insulin,HOMA-IR,lipids,homocysteine,C-reactive protein, nervus dysfunctions system(NIHSS)and viability(Barthel),between 2 groups(all p values less than 0.05).No major adverse effects were reported during the study.Routine blood test, liver and renal functions were normal before and after treatment. Conclusions:Dendrobium mixture showed TCM syndrome improvement, better Glycemic and lipids control, higher insulin sensitivity, neural function recovery and high safety in patients with Qi Yin deficiency with blood stasis diabetes combined with cerebral infarction. So it can be widely used.
