Objective:To determine the effect of the checklist, with main characteristics of risk assessment and interventions, designed for intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients by comparing the rate of adverse events. Methods:In this prospective intervention study,a checklist was developed for quality improvement during intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients by an expert team made up of interdisciplinary experts. The study lasted 5 months, baseline survey done in the first two months, nurses trained to use the new checklist during the following month, and the checklist was used for intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients in the last two months. Results:A total of 712 critically ill patients intra-hospital transport were observed,354 of them transported without intervention,358 were transported using the checklist with main characteristics of risk assessment and interventions. The rate of incidents related to transport declined from 37.85%to 18.99%,and the difference was statistically significant(x2=31.151,P<0.001).Compared with the control group, technical problems decreased from 25.42%to 7.54%,with statistically significant difference(x2=41.446,P<0.001).Conclusions:The application of the checklist with main characteristics of risk assessment and interventions effectively reduce the incidents rate and improve patient safety.
