Retrospective Analysis Of Diagnosis And Treatment On 24 Patients With Carotid Body Tumor

ObjectsTo summarize and analyze the experience of diagnosis and surgical treatment in patients with carotid body tumors. MethodsA restrospective review was performed on 24 patients with carotid body tumors diagnosed and treated in The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between March 2005 and 2015 in aspects of Diagnosis, surgical treatment and postoperative recovery,24 patients were divided into the shamblinIII group and shamblinI?II group,to detect the result of surgical treatment in the two groups. Results24 patients first receive ultrasound examination,diagnosis was made through CTA scanning,9 patients were taken balloon occlusion test under the watch of DSA;24 operation were performed successfully,of which 8 cases underwent simple removal,11 cases co-resection of tumor and external carotid artery,2 cases co-resection of tumor and external and internal carotid artery,3 cases were taken vascular reconstruction of carotid artery after co-resection of tumor and external and internal carotid artery.Patient demographics and the location of tumor were similar between shamblinIII group and shamblinI?II group(P >0.05),operative time and blood loss was higher in shamblinIII group(P <0.05),in the aspect of cranial nerve injury,there was no significant difference between shamblinIII group and shamblinI?II group(P >0.05).After operation,1 patient developed hoarseness and loll right,4 patients developed numbness in face and 5 patients developed swallowing difficulty,all the symptoms disappeared through active treatment.1 patient developed third degree of dyspnea,and recovered completely through complete hemestasis and tracheotomy.During a 5 months to 10 years follow-up,2 lost contact,no death and recurrence. ConclusionsDiagnosis can be made through Color ultrasound and CTA,Surgical removal of the tumor is an effective way to cure the disease.The protect of brain should throughout the whole procedure of surgery, the technique of carotid artery reconstruction can receive good effects.
