Objectives To evaluate our experience in the surgical management andthe complications of carotid body tumor according to the Shamblinclassification.Methods The Clinical manifestations, radiographic findings, operation mode and postoperative complications of31carotid body tumor cases in our department from Jan.2000to Sep.2012were analyzed retrospectively.Results31CBTs were found in28patients,there were15cases ofshamblinⅠ,9cases of shamblinⅡ,7cases of shamblinⅢ in all patients.31tumors were resected successfully,18cases underwent tumour simple resected operation,9cases underwent external carotid artery severed and tumour resected operation,5cases underwent external carotid artery severed,internal carotid artery repaired and tumour resected operation,only1cases underwent external carotid artery severed and internal carotid artery.Conclusion According to the shamblin classification reasonable operation method can reduce operation complication.
