Objective The research adopts randomized? controlled and single-blind experiment to observe clinical curative effect of electro-acupuncture needling on Ciliao point deeply for constipation caused by spinal cord injury (SCI).Methods All the objects conform to the diagnostic criteria raised of ?The international standards for neurological classification of spinal cord injury (2006) the sixth version? and ?Functional constipation of Roman II standard (1999)?, and patients'situation of gender, age and basic illness are on the same level, Then, they were randomly divided into Ciliao group and normal group, with 32 people in each group. The patients of Ciliao group were treated by method of needling deeply on bilateral Ciliao points, meanwhile, using the 6805-D electric acupuncture apparatus with discontinuous wave as well as low stimulating frequency of 20HZ lasting for 40 minutes and for once a day.The acupoints for Normal group patients were bilateral Tianshu, Dachangshu, Shangjuxu, Zhigou, Zhaohai.First stimulating the patients'bilateral Tianshu, then stimulating the other acupoints with the prone position.During the treatment, bilateral Dachangshu with 6805-D electric acuncture apparatus with discontinuous wave as well as low stimulating frequency of 20HZ lasting for 40 minutes and for once a day. Then measuring all patients' defecation frequency and quality of life before treatment n on the 4th treatment week?on the 8th treatment week?on 3rd treatment month through the severity of constipation (Wexner) scale and constipation patients quality of life scale (PAC-QOL)Results 64 cases of patients had taken part in the research, but at last,12 cases of patients had falt off, only 52 cases of patients remained,Ciliao group and normal group all have 26 cases. Both groups'gender composition ratio, average age and average duration illness had no difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the Wexner score decreased significantly compared with those before in both groups (P<0.01), suggested acupuncture therapy could effectively improve SCI patients'constipation. The Wexner score of Ciliao group was lower than normal group, suggesting that Ciliao acupoint could effectively improve the SCI patients'constipation symptom. PAC-QOL scale score shows that both methods of acupuncture could improve patients' body unwell symptom (P<0.01), and make them less worry or anxiety (P<0.01), while improve life satisfaction (P<0.01).But the psychological discomfort of curative effect is not obvious (P>0.05).Neither Ciliao group nor normal group has differences in improving the quality of life (P>0.05). After 8 weeks'treatment,in normal group,no case was cured,9 cases were markedly effective,4 cases were efficient (50%),13 cases were invalid, accounting for 50%. In Ciliao group, there was 0 cases cured,13 cases markedly effective,11 cases effective, accounting for 92%,2 cases invalid (8%), which had significantly difference of effective between Ciliao group and normal group (P<0.05). Following up for 3 months after therapy, we found that more than 60% patients reappered constipation in both groups, and the recurrence rate has no significantly difference (P>0.05).Conclusion 1. Ciliao deep needling combined with electro-acupuncture can significantly improve the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion for SCI constipation, and can improve constipation symptom of SCI patients.2. Ciliao deep needling combined with electro-acupuncture can partly improve SCI constipation patients'life quality, but it has little impact on psychological discomfort. Ciliao group has no obvious advantage on improving patients'life quality compared with normal group.
