Abstract/Summary:
ObjectiveTo investigate the role of biofeedback combined with Buzhongyiqi Pill for improving postoperative defection and quality of life for low colorectal cancer patients.MethodsPatients with low colorectal cancer performed anal sphincter resection(n=100) were randomly divided into conservative treatment group(control group) and biofeedback combined with Buzhongyiqi Pill treatment group(experimental group): control group received postoperative pelvic floor muscle training, life and diet interference for improving defection function; In addition to receiving conservative treatment, experimental group were performed biofeedback combined with Buzhongyiqi Pill treatment. In the 3rd and 12 th month after surgery, patients were followed up and three dimensional high-resolution anorectal manometry were performed, defecation dynamics were compared between these two groups.ResultsIn the 3rd month after surgery, comparing the control group with the experimental group, the anal resting pressure [(32.67±3.51) vs.(33.52±3.45)mmHg], the anal squeezing pressure [(85.68 ± 4.31) vs.(86.32 ± 8.84)mmHg] and the maximum anal contraction time(28.95 ± 6.18) vs.(28.42 ± 6.34)s] showed no significant difference(P>0.05). Comparing the control group with the experimental group, the distal colon resting pressure [(2.61±0.86) vs.(2.66±0.89)mmHg], the initial feeling capacity threshold [(12.38±4.69) vs.(12.44±5.84) ml], the initial defecation capacity threshold [(50.64 ± 15.64) vs.(51.28 ± 16.34)ml] and the maximum tolerated capacity [(72.59 ±18.28) vs.(73.62±19.35) ml] showed no significant difference(P>0.05). Comparing the control group with the experimental group, the positive cases of distal colon anal reflex contraction [30 vs.31],the positive cases of distal colon anal inhibitory reflex contraction[11 vs.10], the balloon expulsion test time [(21.48 ± 5.46) vs.(20.34 ± 6.34)s] showed no significant difference(P>0.05); Comparing the control group with the experimental group, the defecation times[(5.8±2.0) vs.(5.4±1.8)] and the defecation control time [(0.8±0.2) vs.(0.8±0.3) s] showed no significant difference(P>0.05).In the 3rd month after surgery, comparing the control group with the experimental group, the anal resting pressure [(43.98 ±4.36) vs.(50.66 ± 5.61) mmHg], the anal squeezing pressure [(102.14±3.48) vs.(110.8±6.14) mmHg] and the maximum anal contraction time [(35.14 ± 3.28) vs.(39.46 ± 7.15) s], the experimental group were significantly increased compared with the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); Comparing the control group with the experimental group, the distal colon resting pressure [(3.32±1.26) vs.(3.74±1.52) mmHg], the initial feeling capacity threshold [(13.86±5.37) vs.(15.86±6.14) ml], the initial defecation capacity threshold [(67.39±16.32) vs.(70.48±17.15) ml] and the maximum tolerated capacity [(130.4±21.64) vs.(140.2±19.67) ml], the experimental group were significantly increased compared with the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); Comparing the control group with the experimental group, the anal reflex contraction of distal colon positive cases [41 vs.48], the distal colon anal inhibitory reflex contraction of positive cases [40 vs.46], the balloon expulsion test time [(30.45±6.32) vs.(34.16±7.15) s], in the experimental group were significantly higher than in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); defecation times per day in the experimental group(2.6±1.4) was significantly lower than in the control group(4.1± 0.8), defecation control time in the experimental group(5.4 ± 1.6s) was significantly longer than in the control group(3.3±1.7s), the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).ConclusionBiofeedback Combined with Buzhongyiqi Pill treatment can significantly improve the defecation dynamics, as well as the quality of life for low colorectal cancer patients after anal sphincter resection surgery.
