Objectives:The aim of this study was to identify the current status of biological researches and perception of the public regarding biobanks; to assess the willingness of participation among the general public, medical staff and scientific research personnel, administrators of medical institution; and to identify factors associated with the willingness.Design:Cross-sectional survey. A total sample of 478 Chinese was surveyed via questionnaires between December 2014 and March 2015.Results:In the general public(n=292), only 51.0% had ever heard of the biobank; the willingness of participation was 46.2%?55.7%?75.6% in the three population, respectively; the willingness of administrators in medical instutions was significantly higher than the general public (p<0.05); 66.8% of the general public agreed that the donation of samples was of high risk, significantly higher than the two populations(p<0.05). The general public showed the lowest willingness on donation of samples; intentions to participate were significantly associated with the education level and experience of studies, other factors included religion, marital status and gender.Conclusions:The general public lacks knowledge of biobank, educations regarding biobank should be promoted to improve the willingness to participate in biobank studies. |
