Objective The study was to observe the efficacy difference of treating constipation after stroke with intensive moxibustion with ginger paste and traditional acupuncture method, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of two kinds of treatment, testing the effectiveness of the intensive moxibustion with ginger paste, analyzing and exploring its action mechanism and application. Methods 60 patients with constipation after stroke were randomly divided into treatment group(intensive moxibustion with ginger paste group)and control group(traditional acupuncture group),both of which were 30 cases. For treatment group, ginger paste was put on Xia wan,Guan yuan,Tian shu(2 points),and other acupoints.Three moxa sticks were ignited together in moxibustion at each point and long duration of treatment of 50 to 60 minutes was adopted,Acupoints of Tian shu,Zhi gou,Shui dao,Gui lai and Feng long, all of which were 2 points, were used in traditional acupuncture group. The duration was 7 days and 2 courses were continuously,in which 2 days were off.The follow-up was made 14 days after treatment and quantitative scoring was made among before treatment, after treatment and after follow-up based on the symptoms and the evaluation standards. In the end, efficacy evaluation was made. Results 1 The comparison in symptom scores before and after treatment : based on rank sum test, the result of two groups showed(P<0.05),suggesting that both two methods were effective in constipation after stroke. However, there was no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05),suggesting that there was no significant differences in improving the symptoms.2 Based on Independent t-test,the comparison in the first defecation time was no statistical significance(P>0.05),suggesting that the two groups had similar effect.3 The comparison in the changes of symptom scores before and after treatment : based on rank sum test, the result of two groups showed that both two methods were effective in constipation after stroke(P>0.05).The comparison between the two, based on independent t-test,was no statistical significance(P>0.05)after one course, suggesting there was no significant differences in one course. And there was the same result after two courses, suggesting that there had similar effects after one and two courses.4 Based on the independent t-test,the comparison of follow-up 14 days after treatment showed no statistical significance(P>0.05),suggesting that the effect of the two methods were relatively stable.5 Based on the unidirectional orderly classification rank sum test, there was statistical significance(P<0.05)in clinical effect. The total effective rate of treatment group was 93.33% and the obvious effect rate was 40.00%.The total effective of control group was 90.00% and the obvious rate was 36.67%.The discussion above showed that the treatment group was superior to the control group in increasing effective rate in this illness. Conclusions 1 There shows similar effect in relieving symptoms with both methods. The time of taking effect of the two groups is similar, and the effect is stable.2 The intensive moxibustion with ginger paste group in the treatment of post-stroke constipation effect same time and the traditional acupuncture group, and the effect is more stable.3 Although the two groups have the similar effect, there have differences in the second course mainly,in which the intensive moxibustion with ginger paste group is superior to the traditional acupuncture group.4 The intensive moxibustion with ginger paste group is superior to the traditional acupuncture group in the total effect.5 It is safe, easy and acceptable for the constipation after stroke using intensive moxibustion with ginger paste and it is worth popularizing.
