| Purpose:This research focuses on the observation of the clinical effects, elucidation of the mechanisms and evaluation of the efficacy and potential toxicity of Yiyuan Tongbi Soup in treating coronary artery disease/angina pectoris derived from Yangqi exhaustion.Methods:Select and randomly divide 60 patients with Yangqi exhaustion-derived coronary artery disease/angina pectoris into experiment group and control group within which contains 30 patients each. Patients in both groups do not differ at basal level. In addition to regular Western medication,300ml_ of water-boiled Yiyuan Tongbi Soup are applied to experiment group taking one dose twice a day in diurnal cycle; control group is only applied with regular Western medication. Total period of treatment is 4 weeks. From observation and statistical analysis of the symptoms of traditional Chinese medication, ECG and the results from laboratory test assay of all patients, evaluate the effectiveness, elucidate the mechanisms and study the potential toxicity of Yiyuan Tongbi Soup.Results:After 4 weeks of clinical study and verification, improvement results of angina pectoris treatment obtained from experiment group is superior over control group; symptoms of traditional Chinese medication have significantly reduced in experiment group compared to control group; overall treatment effects of traditional Chinese medication is more superior in experiment group. In terms of ECG changes, decreases in dosage of Nitroglycerin etc., outcomes differences are largely detectable between 2 groups of subject patients:experiment group is significantly superior over control group. Experiment group has also improved more than control group in blood lipids level, C-reactive protein, blood rheology, fibrinogen etc. obtained from laboratory test assay. No statistically significant differences are detected in liver and kidney function index test, indicating no potential toxicity is associated with Yiyuan Tongbi Soup application.Discussion:Clinical trials have confirmed that Yiyuan Tongbi Soup is capable of improving the clinical symptoms of patients with Yangqi exhaustion-derived coronary artery disease/angina pectoris. It possibly functions in vasodilation of coronary arteries, increase in coronary blood flow, reduction in oxygen consumption of cardiac myocytes, stabilization and decrease in size of plaques, anti-inflammation etc. Experiment has also verified the absence of potential toxicity so that its application is worth in future clinical treatment. |
