OBJECTIVE:Through retrospective analysis of clinical data of the patients, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the modified calcaneal plate in treatment of calcaneal intra-articular fracture, offer the extensive clinical experimental data and theoretical support for the treatment of intra-articular calcaneal fracture via the sinus tarsi approach.METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed 32 patients accepting open reduction and internal fixation. According to the Sanders classification.17 feet were of type ? and 12 feet of typelll. Postoperatively, wound complications and damage of the sural nerves were observed and the calcaneal width, height, Bolhler's and Gissane's angles were measured before and after surgery as well as at the last follow-up. Functional recovery was evaluated according to the ankle and hind foot score of American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS).RESULTS:Altogether 32 patients were followed up for an average of 18.3 months(from 12 to 24 months). There were no severe wound complications. X—ray showed basic restoration in the length, width, height. Bolhler' s and Gissane's angles of the calcaneus and no loss of reduction during the follow—up period. The AOFAS scoring showed:13 excellent.4 good and one fair cases in the 18 feet of Sanders type ? fracture; 7 excellent.5 good and 2 fair cases in the 14 feet with Sanders type ?fracture;CONCLUSION:While the use of modified calcaneal plate provides satisfactory reduction and rigid fixation, it can also reduce soft tissue injury and wound complications and conduct early functional exerciseat at the same time.In this way, it will further improve the clinical curative effect, reduce the patient's pain and improve quality of life.
