The Clinical Study On Treatment Of Ankylosing Spondylitis With The Academic Experience Of Professor Li Weiju

ObjectiveThis study is to Summarize, inherit and develop the academic experience on treatment of ankylosing spondylitis(AS) of Professor Li Weiju who is a famous veteran teran doctor of TCM of Shantou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to carry out clinical trial to inspect Professor Li Weiju's academic thought and regularity of herbs using of treatment of AS, and to provide clinical reference for the treatment of AS with Chinese medicine.MethodsThis study used a prospective research method and made use of the information of 60 patients who were diagnosed as ankylosing spondylitis in outpatient and emergency department of Shantou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The patients were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group and the control group with 30 cases in each. Patients in the control group were treated with western medicine salazosulfapyridine (SASP) and celebrex, while Siwu Siteng decoction was added to the treatment group. Two groups of patients accepted 12 weeks'treatment. Comparing the change of bath index, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), CRP (C-reactive protein), clinical symptoms and signs of the two groups to observe the efficacy of Siwu Siteng decoction in the treatment of AS. chi-square test was applied to enumeration data, T-Test was applied to measurement data, SPSS 19.0 statistical software was applied to number data, and with the standard that the study is statistical significant in the case of P<0.05.ResultsAfter 12 weeks'treatment, the bath index, ESR, CRP, clinical symptoms and signs of the patients in treatment group were improved significantly compared with those before treatment (P<0.05). Bath index, ESR, CRP, clinical symptoms, distance between subraaxilla and manubrium, distance between fingers to floor, Schober test, activity of thoracic skeleton, figure of "4" test of patients in control group were improved significantly compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), while there was no statistical difference in the improvements of the activity of spine and the distance between head to wall (P>0.05). Comparing the two groups, there were statistical differences in the bath index, ESR, CRP, hypnalgia, rachialgia, pantalgia, time of early morning stiffness, distance between head to wall, distance between submaxilla and manubrium, Schober test, activity of spine, activity of thoracic skeleton(P<0.05), while there was no statistical difference in the arthralgia, distance between fingers to floor, figure of "4" test(P>0.05).ConclusionApplying Siwu siteng Decoction which was invented by Professor Li Weiju to the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis can significantly improve the patient's clinical symptoms, control the development of the disease, improve the patients'quality of life. The clinical curative effect of Siwu siteng Decoction in the treatment of AS is so remarkable that it is worthy of popularization and application.
