Purpose : Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)mainly onsets with symptoms of chronic inflammation on pivotal joint , tendon, ligament and the bone adhesive point ,which is a disease with unidentified reason affecting whole body. The main syndrome of AS are low back pain by inflammation, and other syndromes include inflammation in periphery joint, some damage in heart , kidney and eyes ,etc.. In the late stage of AS, patients are disabled due to lost normal angle of spinal curve and their hip joints become deformity. Now, there is lack of Western medical treatment to alleviate AS condition economically and safely, but traditional Chinese medicine can improve the symptoms of AS so as to alleviate the pain. From more than ten years practicing, my master, Professor Yan Xiao-Ping, has accumulated abundant clinical experience. Based on the traditional Chinese medicine theory of great Professor Jiang Shu-De, she created a special treatment strategy for AS. Therefore, it is meaningful to summarize and discuss Master Professor Yan Xiao-Ping's diagnosis idea of AS identity classifications. Also it is very useful to study her experience to treat AS through traditional Chinese medicine in clinical practice.Method: This study collects and analyses latest AS research results from both traditional Chinese medicine studies and western medicine studies at first. Based on traditional Chinese medicine theory of AS identity classifications form master Professor Yan Xiao-Ping's diagnosis, the clinical research includes surveying of 320 AS patients, investigating AS disease characteristic of them, and processing statistics program of the frequency of primary and secondary AS syndromes. Also try to looking for the remedies regulation of AS treatment and distinguish the difference of AS Chinese medicine treatment strategy of Master Pofessor Yan Xiao-Ping.Result: There are 320 AS patients in this AS study group including 231 male patients (72.19%) and 89 female (27.81%). Male: Female =2.6: 1. Mean age of AS study group is 32.23 years old. The age range of AS onset is 21 to 40 years old (63.72% ) .The period from onset to definite diagnosis is 3 years and 2 months on average. There are 95 cases of the AS group (29.69%) whose first symptom onsets on the pivot joint, 145 cases of the AS group (45.31%) whose first symptom are combined periphery joint with the pivot joint, and 80 cases of the AS group (25%) whose first symptom are in periphery joints. 98 cases of the AS group (30.63%)were by acute onset and 222 cases of the AS group (69.38%) were with unobvious onset. 34 cases of the AS group (10.63%) suffered from diarrhea in their medical history . 42 cases of the AS group (13.13%) suffered from eyes inflammation in their medical history . 79 cases of the AS group (24.69%) has traumatism in their medical history.
