Clinical Efficacy Research Of Glycolic Acid In The Treatment Of Acne

Background:Fruit acid [Alpha hydroxy acids(AHAs)] are a class of chemical compounds frenquently used in comestic and dermatology.AHAs are organic acids that consist of a carboxylic group on adjacent carbon.AHAs can occur naturally as acid components of many botanical substances like fruits but can also be generated synthetically.Today we used them most come from the fruit,like the sugar cane contain the glycolic acid and the almond contain the amygdalic acid and so on,so we called AHAS as fruit acid.The field of indication of fruit acid containing products ranges fromskin moisturizing over reduction of wrinkles to deep chemical peeling of the skin.Nowadays fruit acid-containing products are rather popular,Numerous mostly cosmetic products like cream moisturizers,toners,masks cleaners,age-spot removers and similar products are available.Depending on the concentation,fruit acid and the desideration of public,fruit acid containing products are designed for home based application as well as for the use in dermatologists' offices or in cosmetic institutes.In our stuy we used glycolic acid,which has the lest molecular weight in the fruit acid and has good water solubility and strong permeability because of simple molecular structure,small molecular weight and much hydroxy,so it can be easily absorbed by skin through the stratum comeum.Fruit acid can promote metabolism of epidermal and dermal cells,thereby we use them to treat many cutaneous diseases,for example acne,keratoma,rosacea,photoaged skin and the pigmentation like chloasma,can also be used as adjuvant treatment of ichthyosis,cutaneous amyloidosis,melanosis,psoriasis.At the same time is also a new trend in medical cosmetology in recent years.Objective:To observe and evaluate the clinical efficacy of the glycolic acid in treatment of the acne and acne sequelae(the scars,hyperpigementation,red mark)and to clare the indication,process and security.Metl1ods:38 caes of acne patients were applied at concentrations of 20%,35%,50%,70% glycolic acid activating solution treatment 4 times,treatment every 2 weeks,Before each treatment the doctor clinical judgment of previous treatment of the patients with acid tolerance,decide whether to increase the concentration of acid.Then before and after each treatment on patients with various types of facial lesions to count,and acne sequelae score points to do statistics.At the same time in the treatment of 3,6,9,12 weeks,the efficacy was evaluated by comparision of the changing of the scars,the fading of hyperpigementation and red mark the satisfaction to the treatment.After the end of the last treatment,the consistency of the objective satisfaction degree and the subjective satisfaction degree(satisfaction,good,invalid)of the physician to the acid treatment of acne and acne complications were evaluated.Results:38 patients completed the treatment,12 patients were cured,21 patients were greatly improved.2 patients were improved,3 patients were noneffective and the total effective percentage was 92.1%,we compare the third and twelfth week,the result hand statistically significant.The integral of the scars,the hyperpigementation and red mark hand statistically significant reductions(P<0.005).During the treatment 8 patients had the side effect like swelling,prickle,erythema,escharosis and furfuration etc.Conclusion:The GA in the treatment of mild and moderate facial acne and acne sequela clinical efficacy of high,especially non inflammatory lesions is inflammatory lesions of acid reaction better;and acid treatment of facial acne is safe,and no serious side effects occurred with objective evaluation.
