In recent years, with the development of urbanization, traditional villages are gradually declining. While people are enjoying the convenience brought by urbanization, and we gradually begin to explore and pursue traditional culture.Meanwhile, the government has issued a series of protection methods and evaluation systems. This paper aims to propose an improved solution to the unreasonable evaluation in the traditional village evaluation and identification index system(Trial).Firstly we introduce the current research status both at home and abroad. We review the history and achievements of the research on ancient villages in detail, and analyzes the current evaluation system of the traditional villages and point out the shortcomings in the system. Then we present the Multiple Criteria Decision model and its solutions with the focus on the Simple Additive Weighting Average method.Afterwards,we apply the method in the assessment of traditional villages and give theformulas for computing the satisfaction degree of each index, solving its weight and calculating the overall satisfaction degree. Finally,we apply the improved method to evaluate the traditional villages with a successful declaration and an unsuccessful declaration, and demonstrate the feasibility of applying fuzzy multiple criteria model to the evaluation of traditional villages.Meanwhile,we carry out a test evaluation on a village to declare and give its comprehensive satisfaction degree. The concept of the overall satisfaction degree is proposed, which refined the scores given by experts. It supplies a new way for evaluating traditional village. The case studies show that the novel method is easy to implement and leads to reasonable results. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The Chapter 1 and Chapter 2is devoted to the introduction to the current research status of evaluation systems of traditional villages and the background of typical cases. We summarize some results in the study of traditional villages and analyse the history and current research status for assessing the ancient villages both at home and abroad. We argue that the protection and development of traditional villages are practical needs with no time to waste. In the Chapter 3,we introduce the multiple criteria decision model and its solutions with focus mainly on weighting average method. We give the formulas to compute satisfaction degree, weight of every indicator and the overall satisfaction degree. The chapter 4 is a detaileddescription of the typical application cases in the Chapter 5,which,together with the Chapter 3,provides theoretic and practical bases for the coming chapter. The Chapter 5 applies the Multiple Criteria Decision model to solve the problem of evaluating traditional villages.Three types of villages--one with successful declaration, one with an unsuccessful declaration and one to declare, are chosen to illustrate our evaluation method. The results show that application of the Multiple Criteria Decision model in the evaluation of traditional villages is feasible and objective.Meanwhile,a village to declare is evaluated based on our method and its comprehensive satisfaction degree is computed. The last chapter is the conclusions and future work to be done in which the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed method are summarized.
