It’s been decades since the Reform and Opening in China,qualitative changes have taken place in both social production patterns,consumption patterns,and economic systems and attitudes of the consumer.People no longer plagued by survival needs but began to chase spiritual needs.When they are shopping,they tend to choose the commodity which is emotionally impressing and self-identifying,and put the value of the product itself in a second place.This is what we called Symbol Consumption.As the most frequent place for consumption activities in modern cities,the internal space of urban commercial complexes will undoubtedly be directly affected by the change in consumer attitudes.This paper tries to explore the rules and characteristics of the internal space design changes of urban commercial complex through the perspective of symbolic consumption,and summarizes the design principles and methods applicable to the current concept of social consumption.The paper firstly clarified the significance of this research and the specific concept of the research object and content,and established the research method and framework.Afterwards,by studying the internal space and symbol consumption of commercial complexes and their current development status in China,this paper analyzes the changes in the internal space design of urban commercial complexes under this scenario,and then summarizes the corresponding spatial performance characteristics.The paper then compares and analyzes the consumption levels of the major cities in China,and determines that Chengdu is in the transition phase of the consumption concept.Then,the paper selected three typical commercial complexes to conduct research,demonstrated the results of the previous theoretical deduction.Finally,from the perspective of consumption,the design principles of the interior space of urban commercial complexes are presented,and practical design strategies are proposed for the four functional types of the interior space.
