Case Study On Quality Management Of A Design-Build Project In UAE

In recent years economy of China is more closely connected with foreign country economy,the proportion of Chinese engineering and construction companies in international market has raised remarkably.The development of the ‘belt and road’ initiative brings more opportunities to Chinese international general contractors.Chinese contractors are used to China traditional approach for construction projects.In order to successfully execute international project,Chinese international general contractors need to know various type of project delivery system.This paper studies quality management of the Al REEM island development Zone A project in U.A.E.The Joint Venture of “A” International Construction Engineering Co.;Ltd.and a local engineering company was the main contractor of the project.The contract was a Design-Build contract.The JV set up the project management system and quality management system.Some Chinese management personnel were not sufficiently internationalized,and were not used to local technical specifications and management procedure,hence a lot of quality management issues raised during execution of the project.On the basis of truth and facts,this paper introduced all aspects of quality management of the project,disclosed the shortcomings in quality management,studied and analyzed the reasons behind it and established its root cause.During the course of studying and analysis,total quality management,quality management in building construction and international project management theory were implemented.This paper also,from quality management and international project management point of views,analyzed the status of the quality management of the project and studied the root cause of its quality management problems.Case study method was adopted in this paper.The quality management issues in the construction stage of the design-built project in UAE were highlighted.Theory of quality management,theory of project management,total quality management method and ISO quality management system were used in the analysis of the quality management issues.The solutions for the quality management issues in execution period of design-build project were worked out.Respectively,the paper offered some suggestions,and pointed out the deficiencies and future research prospects in this paper.
